New Footman Wars

k, here's the lowdown... footmen frenzy is losing flare, hato (it's mapper) is no longer producing new versions, so people want a new footman wars. i've seen throw-together footman wars out there from time to time which wont do, so im working on an original project of my own.

if you havent played a footman wars, what happens is you have a main building in your base with (in most cases) 2 allies of the same situation. you have units that spawn every x amount of seconds where your building is, and if you want, you can get a hero. you lose if you lose that building, so obviously the idea is to use your units to fight your way into the enemy bases and destroy their main buildings.

Footman Wars CTF

Follows the footman wars rules except you win like this: take your hero into the enemy base to their main building (which is invuln) which sets off a trigger and you get the "flag". you take the flag to the middle of the map to another invuln building and it upgrades to a vulnerable one. the upgraded building transfers leadership to the flagholder and anyone on an opposing team can attack the building. if the building is not destroyed within a certain amount of time, the player whos flag was picked up loses and is out.

basically this win-system was just a way for me to make it a little different, maybe more interesting, but i dont know if that's the way i should keep it.

when the game starts you are presented with a step-by-step process via dialogs where you build a custom hero by selecting a race, a hero type (melee str, ranged agility etc.) and an element (fire, lightning, nature, ice, holy, unholy, ground). race influences hero stats and unit appearance (all the units are identical for each race, they just look different), type influences attack range, one spell and primary attribute (str/agi/int), element influences 3 spells (1 is ult). there's a 30 second timer that starts as soon as the game starts, aftre you choose your hero your hero and units will start to spawn when the timer finished ticking down. if you havent chosen heros by the time the timer ticks down a trigger closes all dialogs and randomizes any fields you didnt fill, whether it be race/type/element.

spawns: you start out with melee unit spawns with heavy armor and normal attack. with a 1000g upgrade you can buy additional spawn types that start to spawn as the melee units continue to do so as well. these extra spawn types include ranged units (mages) with magic attacks and unarmored and ranged units (rangers) with piercing attacks and medium armor. the idea behind this is to demand the use of strategy (magic attacks > heavy armor, normal attacks > medium armor, piercing attacks > unarmored) to make a sort of advantage triangle: casters > melee > rangers > casters. the spawn rates for all units start at 10 seconds, and when you buy additional spawns, all your spawn rates increase by 8 seconds so that you dont produce an insane amount of units compared to someone who hasn't yet purchased the upgrades. so once you have all 3 spawns running your spawn rates for each are 26 seconds, so you get on average 1 unit every 8.66 seconds.

with the map almost done (i just have to add a few spells and implement win triggers) i would like to leave the project open to any suggestions that the people of WC3C may have. so far this has been a solo project and i plan for it to continue to be, but if youd really like to be a part of it and have a few good ideas, maybe you can convince me to change my mind :P

I personally do not like Footman Wars at all. They are too overused, and get boring fast. I probably wouldn't play this, but that is just my opinion... you have other members opinions as well. I say go for it if you really want to try it, but I am just giving you my opinion as a heads-up.

i doubt ill have trouble finding people to play this if footman wars is, as you say, overused. but thanks for your opinion, and with the map over half done i doubt ill decide to not do it...

Actually I believe HatoUp is indeed working on a new version, albeit VERY slowly.

Sorry but I don't like hero building systems, they take ages to get your hero set up, and someone will always find a completely imbalanced combination
