Simple Living - Farming, Fishing, Chopping etc.

I'm making a map called Simple Living. It is a multiplayer map for 2-4 people. The object of the game is to play a peasant, who must work in order to buy food and shelter, pay for taxes and so on.

There are many things a peasant can do to earn a living: farming, fishing, chopping, blacksmithing, mining, carpentry, hunting, smelting, skinning, tanning etc. Food and rest is of course necessary, no one can just keep on working all the time. The goods that a peasant procudes can be sold at towns. Tools and goods can also be bought in towns.

I started making this map after I found out that the maps Farmer's Life and Fisherman's Quest were abandoned. I had had this idea for some time before hearing about those two maps, but it didn't seem reasonable to start doing a new type of map when there's already two in the making. There are two game types: easy living or competition. In easy living there is no real objective, just living and surviving. In competition the peasant must try to gain wealth faster than other peasants.

All the basics are done. I still need to make a couple of growable farm animals, add some other stuff like more crops and vegetables, put in changing item prices and playtest some more. Whether this map is finished or not I will release it on sunday (10th of July, GMT + 2).

What I need from you, is feedback. Is 4 players enough? How big can the filesize be? How long should one competition game type last? Maybe it could be chosen at the beginning?

If you have anything on your mind, tell me now. Suggestion, praises, shouts, questions, everything is welcomed.

Ive heard that 4mb is the total limit in size (somone correct me If I´m wrong)
Though I would advie max 2mb cause you want people to download it dont you? :)
Competition.. maybe make so it costs like 100 000 or something and then the farmer can buy a palace, castle or somthing like that and the first one who gets one wins.

Heh, no worries on the size thingy, it's only ½mb now even though the map size is epic.

2-4 people? That sucks right there. The more the people the longer the game will last.

So you want more people? Less people? Short game? Long game?

Depends on the gameplay. If you have an RPG,. then you most likely are going for long gameplay, or "short and sweet" at the least. I think 2-4 is a good amount of people here. I'm assuming gameplay won't be going too fast, so it knid of gives people a chance to talk, more than than you would in, say, a TD. I really like the idea (you're releasing it toady right?) and I think its set perfectly now. From what you described, it doesn't seem like gameplay will be too repetetive, so in these types of games, it's really up to the players to decide how long it will be. If you're having fun, then you'll want to stay longer, and you won't want other players to quit either. If you're slightly interested, the game willl last for a shorter amount of time.
Get what I'm saying?

I think so yea :). This map can be more fast paced (and shorter) if you set the required amount of money to low. The shortest possible is probably about 20 minutes (still unsure, have to test this quickly). The map will be released today, in about 7 hours (16:15 now, GMT +2). It is most likely not the final version, but not too far from it.

I can't wait :) It will be unprotected right? I'd like to look at a few of your triggers to see how you did some of the systems, they might be useful sometime.

I have an idea, but it'll change the whole style of your map, basically make the peasant try to survive as old as possible without dying, and make the peasant try to earn a lot of money, so every or so check on how the earnings come in and how much food he eats, you can nerf things with the Mana - how much the peasant eats, and then by the end of each night determine wether the peasant is sick, ill, or diseased and ready to die. So basically the longest living peasant wins. This is just an idea to expand for your map if you like.

-Mercyful jester, lousy triggers? if you need help in triggers and you have msn just add - [email protected] I will be able to assist you if needed so. that goes double for you metal sonic. Besides it's wut wc3campaign is all about, if you need help seek or ask for it, ppl will help u no doubt about it!

Just uploaded it in the Map Beta Tests -section. I'm truly sorry for the delay, Metal_Sonic64, but some testing revealed a lot of balance issues in it. Fixing those took some time and I had some other stuff to do aswell. After a couple of minutes of thinking I realised this map is quite far away from being finished, so I release it as a beta. I will finish when I have the time, but right now I don't have nearly enough, since I'm going to the army in about 80 minutes. I will continue my work on this map whenever I get some time-off. Almost all the basics in the map is done, so you can go and check out the triggers, if you want. And if you want to use them, just do it. Give credit or don't give, whatever you feel like. Just don't steal the whole damn map :).

How about dozens of peasants ,just a money grab RTS. That will be fun.
A peasants in RPG must have more things to do.
