I thought that by default wc3 could not play imported Midi's, or was that changed? |

Midis are used for ambient sounds. You need to import a custom .dls file to overwrite an existing ambient like Ashenvale.dls and then you can overwrite AshenvaleDay.mid and AshenvaleNight.mid with custom midi files that will use that .dls. In the example I'm looking at these three files ammount to 600kb for two tracks, which is a lot less than mp3, not to mention that due to low filesize of the .mid files themselves you can have much longer tracks for very little additional mapsize. The sound quality is low, but perhaps that can be improoved with better .dls files, or maybe I just have a crappy sound card. Even so, with the 4MB bnet map size limit, this is the only way to get more custom music in the map, and even if it's crappy, it can add a lot to the ambience... but acoustically sensitive people will probably want an option to turn it off. |
