skinning within WE possible?

I modified a texture (BLP), and converted it back to BLP (intermedate was TGA).

I'm trying to replace the texture within WE, but I can't figure it out. I'm beginning to think it's not possible. Is the only way of accomplishing this to make a new model and apply the skin that way? If so, I'm in trouble, as I will lose all the units default Blizz animations.

Are you using the correct path?
Did you save and restart WE and opened map?
No you don't need new models, you just need to import and enter correct path and restart that's all.

Like Windrunner said, you need to use the correct path for the original BLP. If the path was 'Units\Human\HeroMountainKing\Hero_MountainKing.BLP' then in the WE you need to double click on the 'wc3imported\MySkin.BLP' and change it to 'Units\Human\HeroMountainKing\Hero_MountainKing.BLP'.

Hmm, ok, the problem is that I made a custom unit off a villager, but I'm also using villagers all across the map, but want only one of the willagers to have a different skin. Unless I'm wrong, it will change the skin on all the villagers.

EDIT:

btw doesn't seem to be working, though now that you mention it, I remember making it work some time ago (been a few months now). Here's what I have for the custom path:

Units\Critters\VillagerMan1\VillagerMan1.BLP

The custom units art values haven't been modified or anything.

Tim.
If you place that path as the BLP's path it will overlap all villagers. If you want it to NOT overlap them all, you do need to import a new model, at least thats my understanding.

Yeah, just convert the .mdx to a text file. Open in notepad and scroll down to textures. You will see it's path, now change it to
Units\Critters\VillagerMan12\VillagerMan12.BLP for example. Convert it back to .mdx.
When you import the skin you enter this path you just made and it should be done.

You can find the MDX --> MDL converter at Wc3sear.ch in case you dont already have it.

Guys, I seriously can't get this stupid thing to work, even though I've made it work in other maps with other units/textures...

Made a TGA texture in 32 bit format > converted to BLP > Imported > changed it to "Units\Critters\VillagerMan1\VillagerMan1.blp".

Still doesn't work, even after WE restart, or even running it in WCIII.

What do you mean it does not work? The skin makes the unit dissapear or it just remains default?

Did you compressed it the right way? 85 is recommended but you should try something different if it doesn't do it at 85.
Do you have a alpha channel (or was it alpha layer? hmm.) ? If you use wc3viewer it will automaticly make one when converting if it doesn't have one.
