I've seen people take models and skins from the WoW MPQ and put them in wc3, and I was wondering what program you would use to do such a thing, Because the WoW models are not the same as Wc3 models

Export from WoW; Import to 3dsMAX; Export to MDX.

There is a convertor for GMax too (which btw is free) but I don't remember the link.

You make it sound really easy. I used an MPQ Extractor to get a simple model out, "Poison Elemental". I then opened up the "texture.mpq" and took the poison elemental blp file from there. I then got a script for 3DSMAX and imported the model.

( I have never used 3DSMAX before so all I see is this )

My problem is, I don't see the textures or particles for that matter and when I say "export" I don't see "as .MDX or .MDL"

You need Warcraft III ArtTools, which is only for 3dsMAX 4.x and 5.x in order to export to .MDL/.MDX

You cannot import animations, this includes particles.

For materials, you need to convert the texture to TGA, open the 'Material Editor, set the material type from 'Normal' or 'Bitmap' or whatever it currently is, to Warcraft III. Then make the 'Diffuse' map the .TGA texture. Then drag that material onto the model.

In order to do any of this you NEED 3dsMax5.x

Ahhh I see, and for animations, base them off of a custom unit that will take the .MDX, got it. thanks

They really need to upgrade these art tools to work on new versions of 3dStudio Max

It will never happen.

Also, you cannot import animations, period. From WoW or from War3. Plenty of importers claim to, but you cannot. You will need to animate any model you make from scratch, unless you already made an animation similar to it in the past with 3dsMAX.
