Dying Crystals

If you change the model of a destructible to a doodad, there's a problem with the death animation. Since a doodad has none (specifically the northrend crystal) when my SCV (lol, starcraft...) kills a crystal, the crystal stays there. I can't use a trigger that removes it--it shuts down warcraft. (Saw somewhere else that you can't remove a dying destructible...) Is there any way, using GUI or JASS, to bypass this or the like?

Gameplay Constants, look for Decay Time.
