So, we come to possibly the most overlooked part of your average WC3 mod in my oppinion - the sound effects. It's not hard to see why they get overlooked, because there's such a good selection of sounds available in WE anyway, people will usually opt for one of these rather than record their own. Time to rethink this guys. Anyone with a half decent Mic can record a sound effect, and it only takes a little bit of fiddling with some cool filters in an editing suite to create some nice sounds, which can make the difference between a good mod and a great mod. You can request SFX anytime during the mod or map creation process, just as soon as you think you need one. If you insist on your mod using the SFX exclusively, then so be it, as long as you have the person who recorded it for you's consent. I would rather they were available for the entire community and that we could build up a collection of them that everyone could use, but I can't stop you if you guys really want to keep them for yourselves. Don't do massive batch requests like "Mod is nearly done, can we plz have someone to record SFX for us?", keep it smaller, ask for either perticular SFX or for small batches, like SFX that are all centered around on spell, unit or event. Finally, don't be scared to ask for anything, the worst that can happen is no one steps up and does it for you, which is unlikely. Your average SFX should not take more than 10 minutes to do and can make a real difference. Be sure to check the rest of the web for other places that might have decent sound effects that fit what you want, there's some good ones out there guys. Thanks for reading this Challis |
