the old gods are a very mysterious race, blizzard has done little to define them, in fact the little we do know is a short paragraph in the history. What are they? Do they look like elementals, and most importantly to me what are thier names and how many are there? At first glance it would seem that, they are a small group of highly powerful creatures thus dubbed gods. They rule over the elementals and have appointed the most powerful of them as Generals: Ragnaros the Firelord, Therazane the Stonemother, Al'Akir the Windlord, and Neptulon the Tidehunter. But then there are some strange inconsistencies. Why give us the generals names and not that of thier masters the gods? and then theres this Quote:
Which do you think is more likely? |

They simply want to keep it a mystery. So did Tolkien do in many things like if you would've asked him "Why do elves go to Valinor, but men die?" he would've told you that even he doesn't know. Death was Illúvatar's gift to the men. I suppose old gods were demonic and ancient race. Since demons were all around before the titans came to wipe them out and forged worlds peaceful until the Sargeras was corrupted and found the Burning Legion and began the Burning Crusade. Blizzard just wants to keep it as a mystery in Azeroth. Nowhere is mentioned anything more revealing of them than what you have there in your quote. |

You do know the definition of race, I hope. |

My point was that they were own race, but in my head I'd imagine them demonic since I'd dare to guess there wasn't much anything in the universe except demons and old gods before the titans came to clean up the galaxies. The old gods would've maybe been destroyed by the reign of the demons before the titans did it if they were not allies of them or something. I don't mean that to forge and alliance you have to look similar, demons and old gods, but that only leaves you to solve everything aobut the old gods in your own imagination so this is quite a thing to speak about. |

My point is: Quote:
2 beings can be considered a race. In addition: Quote:
Obviously, there were at least Elementals too. |

To date there are five known Old gods. In War of the Ancients Trilogy by Richard A. Knaak, it mentions of three Old gods tha were imprisoned by the Titans thousands of years ago. According to the Warcraft RPG books timeline, the Titans arrived to Azeroth 147,000 years ago, and departed 64,001 years ago. This is so you keep tabs on time-frames. One Old god was killed by a Titan. You can see his skull impaled by a giant sword at Master's Glaive -- located southwest of Darkshore(Kalimdor). The fifth Old god was revealed to have fallen at Silithus. This is the first time we hear a name. Old god C'thun was thought dead. He used the Silithid as template to create his own new race of servants: The Aqiri -- they split later into Nerubians and Qiraji. There are rumors that another fallen Old god is in Dragon Isle. There is a palace atop a giant Nautilus(Octopus with Shell-head). However, this is not proven. The 3D model is in the Wow folder however. As for the Elementals, they are one of the many servants of the Old gods. Not all elementals are the way we know them. Above them, are reptilian-like creatures that have elemental powers too. Elementals worship them too. In Silithus, when you summon the Dukes of the Abyssal Council, strangely you summon Winged Serpents of Hakkar, Hydras and other stuff. Aku'mai -- a Hydra-- in Blackfathom Deeps is the pet of the Old gods. Then we have other children or servants of the Old gods in Northrend. When Illidan used the Eye of Sargeras at Dalaran to break the Icecrown of Northrend, he accidentally freed the Unbroken Ones, the Faceless ones and the Forgotten One. There is a Forgotten One in Ahn'Qiraj for those who haven't played Test Servers. Looks like the one from Warcraft III: Frozen Throne. The Old gods seem to look reptilian, Mollusk-like, amphibian, Sea-like creatures. You gotta take in mind the Old gods are a homage to Lovecraft's Cthulhu and the Old Ones. C'Thun sounds like CTHUlhu. The War of the Ancients Trilogy also describes somewhat one of the Old gods. He has tendrils, very long ones. He wrapped Nozdormu and trapped him for a while. To wrap a huge dragon like Nozdormu may give you a hint how big the Old gods are. Um...RAGNAROS IS A BEATABLE BOSS IN WOW. DUHHHH? Did anyone relize that? |

If you read what Ragnaros says to Executus, he gets mad because it was not yet time to be awaken. What we fought is a weak avatar of Ragnaros. If we had fought the real Ragnaros at full potential -- we would have been melted. |

I'm interested to see where the story goes with the Water Elementals. They seem to have revolted, more or less, from what I can gather, and fight the other elementals. I'd like to find out what their motives are, and would really like to see that whole plot expanded. In a "post-apocalyptic" Warcraft campaign setting I am writing up, they are one of the few allies the mortal races have against the old gods and their servants. *waves at Medievalboy* Hey Medieval! Fizz here. =D |
