Do you think it's acceptable to use copyrighted music in a Warcraft cinematic, as long as you aren't making a profit, and you aren't claiming to have made the music yourself? |

Well, there's the legal factor of it being copywrited, which I personally think is a good enough reason to not use it. Then there's the naff and cheap factor. If people here music that they've heard from somewhere else in the map, it just doesn't seem as professional. I'd steer clear of copyrighted music if I were you, it's simply not worth it. |

I'd prefer making your own, or if you arent talented on that then ask someone who is to do it for you. |

I'm not so sure myself, if you have the capability to make your own music then sure, go ahead. Most people however can make good use of copyrighted music, particularly obscure titles that are unlikly to be familiar (video game music for instance). legally, of course you should not steal in such a way, but honestly your chance of being prosecuted is less than zero. If it works and it sounds good, i frankly don't care how a map maker got the music. |

Hey, I never saw anyone criticise Creatures Of The Night, and I think ALL the music in that series was copyrighted... |

When CotN was released, I kept my mouth SHUT. I'd only just started out here and you didn't go pointing fingers at the big guys like DaemonKillar and KDEWolf |

Well it is illegal, I don't think that depends on opinions, but it is also true that no one cares, it is not like the legal owners of the music will seek your bnet name till suing you I once told blizzard to sue me for breaking the EULA (map optimizer) I gave them all the info as to how to locate me, and nothing happened |

I think using copyrighted music is ok, but yeah, it's illegal, and making your own makes the map/mod/whatever more original (if it's good composed and so on) I'd surely make my own music in a midi program with different soundfonts installed and then convert it to mp3/wave if I made a map |

Blizzard's models are copyrighted, but people happily extract, edit and upload them for anyone to use. |

People download music all the time. Now, im not getting into that ethical question, my point is that they have much better people to sue than some guy that put their music in a video game. |

It is illegal.... why was it made illigeal? So that people wont steal the songs and make money with them I think it is ok since we make maps for fun and not money I dont know how to make music, but I know awsome japanese songs from games that i doubt anyone even heard of on this forum..... Blizzard doesnt care, they even said about importing music.... in the readme they said about putting Bethovens symphony^^ Im making a campaign.... and trust me if Im sopose to forget all the music I want to put the Romantic... the sad.... the happy.... the enigmatic and instead use the original warcraft 3 music whiches varienty is a Sin then my campaign will loose a lot and I think int he credits ill add the original authors as DarkOne did with HeroRPG.... they deserve it |
