This story was based on a rather mysterious dream I had a few years ago. A nightmare, brr. It intruiged and scared me to hell. You'll see why when you read it. I did alter it a bit, translating it and adding some more drama. I even translated my own name. I'm Martin, but my dutch name would be Maarten. I guess english names just read easier for ya. Here goes.

Nuke.

The usually busy street of the young city was deserted. All life seemed to have drained trough the sewer along with the melted snow. The long street was enriched by dozens of the same white houses, which seemed to go on endlessly, into the void. All the curtains where closed. The only signs of life emitted from a small group of young children playing with the remaining snow. The snow was rather wet and effected by the harsh circumstances. It was a little bit blackened of colour. Although the small field where the children played in looked rather dirty, the streets and houses where spotless. Two children, girls, where busy with the snowman. The other two where having a fierce battle, where snowballs zipped trough the air like they weren’t affected by the pull gravity. Not noticing the spooky atmosphere, they where having a good time.

Hitting the other with a rather dark colored snowball, the kid grinned. No wonder, his victim was covered in a wild mix of mud and snow. “Oh, really low Cedric, really low.” The victim grunted. Cedric chuckled “You should pay more attention George, your such a…” without finishing his sentence, a snowball which shared the colour of George’s face hit Cedric right in his grin. Sharing a fierce, challenging look at each other, they soon bursted into a mad laughter. On the other side, the girls where having a great time on they’re own way. The snowman was growing in size like it was eating to much food in to little time. “Could you pass me some of your side’s snow, please? My side looks rather… desolate.” They chuckled. “Offcourse” She passed some of her snow to the other side. “Thank you, Maria.” “Your most welcome” the other girl said in a kind, soft voice. “Just throw a snowball in her face Sophia, that’ll teach her!” Cedric yelled to the two girls. “Oh very funny Cedric...” “Boys…” Maria answered in a cold voice. They giggled.

”Lets go swim! The water is looking good!” George yelled at the girls. “I’m with ye, George!” They cheered as they ran to the swimming pool, which they just noticed. “Good idea… it could be refreshing” Maria said gently. Sophia nodded. The two girls hopped towards the pool. The children didn’t seem to noticed that the houses opened they’re curtains, and the residents where gazing towards them. Every house contained exactly the same family. a girl of about 16 years old, a older brother, a rather fat looking father and a skinny mother. They all shared they’re threatening gaze towards the children.
The water looked spotlessly blue, and the bottom was clearly visible. The marmer that surrounded the pool was perfectly white and spotless. There where no toys or any slides nearby. Just a pool. With a loud cheer, Cedric launched himself into the pool without bothering to take off his clothes. George shortly followed, and the two girls slowly dipped themselves into the water. Laughing, careless, the children swam around having a good time.

Out of nothing, a teenage boy ran towards the children. He had brown hair, blue eyes that where enhanced by glasses. He wore a raffled blue jeans and a simple red sweater. His brown hair was long and messed up. He had a frenzied expression on his face and seemed to be in great fear. When he reached the children, he began to talk in a rapid pace. “Children, we have to get out of here! The Germans are coming... we’re not safe here! We have to take shelter!” Suddenly snapping out of they’re play rituals, the children climbed out of the basin. “Don’t be afraid, mister”. Maria calmly said. “Don’t be afraid… what… are you talking about?” Shortly after the children climbed out of the pool, the air alarm sounded. But they did not move. “Don’t worry mister, we’re here!” Cedric said enthusiastically. “You don’t understand… we’re in grave danger! Come on! We need to dash!” Sophia chuckled “You shouldn’t hide from fate, Martin..” “How do you know… my name?” “Why wouldn’t I?” Sophia answered. High in the sky, they could see a huge white bomb soaring trough the air. “We’re here. Don’t worry.” George whispered, and clutched his arms tightly. The others followed his example, rendering the boy unable to move. Martin couldn’t speak. It felt like his tongue was stuck to his palate. It was to late to run… the bomb nearly hit the surface. It did. A white light engulfed him… everything went white… the pool, the children, the houses, himself… but pain was left behind.

i could have sworn they made us watch a movie like this somewhere in the 1st grade of highschool... only then after the bomb, and the snow was fallout. eew.

anyway, nicely written, though there are some errors, i am most certainly not suited to correct them.
