Weekly Modeling Challenge: Are you up for it?

I was thinking of a weekly modeling challenge event, simmilar to the on at the weekly concept art one, to keep the modeling comunity more active. Every week I shall state a topic and whoever may want will make a model after their interpretation of the theme (with some basic rules, of course, but not to limit the creativity).

But aniway, I don't know how many modelers are there who are eager to do this. So I'll need your feedback on this before actualy doing it so I won't have the surprise of no one competing. If there will be enough favorable votes, then this event shall happen.

If all this will work fine, mabye there will be a user vs user challenge event.

I would suggest using the concept contest winners, but by the look of it they're going to be sucky themes.

I would also suggest the theme sit closely related to Warcraft to be usable, but I doubt any of them will be unwrapped, textured and animated.

I'm not really in to contests, my goal is more to supply the wc3 community with the highest quality models I can make.

I'll participate as much as I can. I reckon if we can include MDL editers then the number of entrants will be boosted a great deal.

Ah nice idea. And yes, WH is right, it should be related to Warcraft.

I guess people with near (80%) finished projects could propose/request a topic. Ideally the subject wont be so restricted that everyone makes the same model - so more resources become available as a result.

I was planning to make a thread in wich users can suggest themes and I would pick one from there instead of making them up by myself. And I don't know about geomergers, I would rather not include them in this...what do the rest of you think about geomergers?

Well, I personally dislike them, but I doubt there would be nearly enough entries in this unless we include them... At least if we include them we can have a bigger competition, though lets say that in terms of the judging that you'll lose marks for not making an original model or something.

Gain points for having animations would also encourage people to finish the model off completely, meaning more for the resource area and (hopefully) more interest in the modelling forums again.

Geomerges are good if they are well done, for example my werewolf is a geomerge. enough for me for saying that you must allow them

Yeah, 'guess that geomergers will make the challenge more populated, but as datajax said they shall not be regarded as high as scratch-modelers when judging.

well, but that would be fair. Xcept if the geomerge looks a lot better than the scratch ones.

I'm in for sure, but I'm not sure I can participate every week.. I'll do it as often I can/want. Geomerging is crap except if they are very original. (like phoenix_IV's)

Also, will there be some kind of poly limit?

That may occur, but however, geomerging involves less effort than making skratch models.

And yes, there will be a polygon limit (depending on the complexity of the theme), for this is a wc3 forum and many (hopefuly) of the models will be released as resources.

I could count the number of people who would enter and make animations on a dismembered hand. No way in hell I'm going to do it merely for a 'contest' when I am working on useful projects that need more attention.

To echo my point - if this contest doesn't help the community in some way, its unlikely to even start.

Tim.
I would enter 75% of the time - However I agree with Whitehorn; without a purpose for the models, contest entries would be limited.
