Hey guy's

I'm pretty new to modding with warcraft 3 and i have great plans and people to make a nice mod for it. The only thing i'm concerned about is hat I don't have the right programms for it.

I have 3ds max 8! Newest version of it. I already readed in the forums that it isnt compatible with warcraft 3. So I'm searching for somethign else. Now i'm trying Gmax because it's legal and some people say it works fine.

If somebody could plz explain me if Gmax would work for everything in a great way? Like animation, modelling and texturing would export to warcraft 3 in a fine way. Or does it have many problems with it?

If Gmax is not the programm to use could somebody plz provide 3ds max 5 for me. Or provide me with some other options.

Thx for reading this, I hope you guys will reply....

Gmax is viable, there are various tutorials and tools around here.

Alternatively you could try Oinkerwinkle's tools, but the animation tools are limited and incomplete.

Tried the oinkerwinkle tools but you can't do much with it. There arent many options. Used it a year ago stopped with modelling for w3after that and played some other games.

After i made a return to warcraft. Because it's still a great game and when this site camed back i will model again and try make also some mods for W3

So Gmax is nice or not? Readed some complains about it, that's why. Can you provide me some tutorials?

And another question is 3ds max 5 better or not and how to get it??
And ofcourse is it expensive...?

3d studio max 5 is not better than later versions, but it is the only compatable version for Blizzard's Art Tools - somewhat essential.

I'm afraid we cannot supply it, and I believe it is no longer sold, but don't let that stop you seeking other means.

There is a big button labelled tutorials if you look up.

I knew that 3ds max 5 was the only compatible version for W3. But Gmax is not as good as 3ds max 5 thats for sure. It has more and better options and i ehar more and better things about exporting and animation...

Gmax is an okay program for making WC3 models - only animations (at least scale animations) become bugged on export (I believe this is a problem that's caused by the exporter script, not directly by gmax).

I'd say you either should start with gmax and experiment a bit with it, get familiar with it OR get milkshape. I've never used milkshape (crashes on my comp), but I've heard it's supposed to be good.

Don't like milkshape.

The only problem is animation you say. That's the biggest trouble i want to make good animations for my models =P Most of the custom made models have animations like shit.

Isn't there any other programm out there. And is it true you have almost no trouble when you use 3ds max 5 or do you have many trouble there to with animation or tecturing and stuff?

if your not planning on finding max 5 and already have max 8 then use it. Why would you use gmax over max 8? Use dex script to export work from max 8. Dex script is found at the top of the modelling forum.

Many people say that only older versions like 3ds max 5 are compatible with W3.

An you get many problems with exporting with that tool...... Atleast many people say that.

So I'm now searching for 3ds max 5 if somebody can provide me that plz contact me on msn
