A troll head i made with some pencils...the tusks are abit low but meh.

you do know how small this picture is eh? around about the same as a cd case, i dont.
and trolls dont have the most smoothest of skin. traditional colouring is different from digital you know?

size does not matters, scientists line up atoms with extremly precise tools to make drawings, dont try to come up with that reason when a cd case is infinitly bigger than a single atom.
well, if it's that small, get a magnifier glass!
it would look so much better if you wouldnt have used your thick black goth lipstick to draw the fat big pure black lines, they do a huge contrast on their own

... for me is completely ok. It looks good, and I don't really get what problem do you have with thick lines. The skin is excellent for atroll, so it is good for me.

well i suppose its unnatural and crude to have black lines with that thickness, the forehead area is nicely shaded until the black lines comes into play

Who cares about the realism of the black lines? It's a drawing, not a photograph.

I suggest using a finer tipped pen, or no pen; it doesnt mix well with colored pencils.
