OK.

I am new to skinning and I have a rather big problem, If anyone could help me it would be very appreaciated, I am really sorry if this is irrelevant or really noobed but i thought this would be a good forum for skinning problems and i might recieve some help.

I have recently tried a tutorial over the internet: http://world-editor-tutorials.thehel...t/skinning.php

So I followed the tutorial and first i downloaded the Warcraft 3 Extractor II, And to try & keep things less complicated; I used the Sorceress, And as in the tutorial, Saved it as a .tga file.
I also downloaded Photo Impact and opened the .tga file with it, At this point I was confused by the -

" Any area NOT selected on the skin will show up in the game as the players color. If we want to preserve those colored areas, we will need to save the selection. Photo Impact allows me to store the existing selection under the selection menu. "

I ignored that part and went on to the editing of the Sorceress, Editing the skin, Dress etc.. Once i finished that I had ended up with a bunch of ' Layers' And a base layer, The layers being; Layer 1.(skin), Layer 2. (dress), And the base layer was All of them In one. I selected the base layer and followed the tutorial in saving.

By then i was also confused by the -

"Before we save it, we have to remember to restore our original selection. This preserves the original player colors. To do that really easily, we can load the original selection under the Selection menu, by clicking on Load Selection. You can also change the selection if you want to change where the player colors show."

I also ignored that part and went onto saving it as a .tga file again.
Then I followed the importing part and opened the extractor again, with that; opened the .tga file and saved it as a .blp as said in the tutorial.

I went into the world editor and as said in the tutorial, I went to Import Manager and imported the .blp file.

It read -File Name Type Full Path
Sorceress0.blp Image/Texture war3mapImported\Soreress0.blp

I then changed the path EXACTLY to Units\Human\Sorceress\BloodElfSorceress.blp as said in the tutorial.

And finally i wanted to test out the skin so i used a custom unit and changed the Art/Module file to the Units\Human\Sorceress\BloodElfSorceress.blp, I opened the unit in the tool pallette and placed it on my map, A little lag and my unit was a green and black checkered cube and in the corner of the map it said, Could Not Load Unit Units\Human\Sorceress\BloodElfSorceress.blp

Once again, I am really sorry if this Annoys anyone, if this is irrelevent, and for me being a really big noob, If anyone could help it would be great, I'm sorry for wasting your time with such a long thread, even If you could just recommend me a tutorial that i would understand .

Thanks, Aotiq.

You said you used Photo Impact, I can't really help there, 'cause I never used that programm. I suggest you use Paintshop Pro or photoshop for skinning.
but from what I can see from your post, you left out the Alpha channels, making the texture unusable.

and btw, when I started skinning, I was confused by that tutorial too.

I also found out every thing about Alpha channels after a while I started skinning, but in paintshop pro (wich I use), you can leave the Alpha channels intact, so you don't have to know anything about them.

Sounds like a model error. If it was a skin error, you would have either team coloured meshes, or just no model. The Green and black box implies a broken model.

Sounds like what you did wrong was (if I understand) ...

You don't need to change the path of the model file in the object editor to a custom path...that's for custom models, not custom skins.
If you get the path of the skin right in the Import manager, that immediately replaces the old skin with the custom one, and all you need to do is select the sorceress model in the object editor, it will be reskinned

Photoshop all the way baby. No messing with alpha layers at all, i can just erase things to be see-through and WHAM it adjusts my alpha channels immediately. <3

And that's unique to Photoshop? I think NOT.
