I hope I picked the right forum for this. Even though it involves a skin, it is more critical to the developement to your map in general. The good news: This only involves crashes for mac users as far as I can tell. For some reason, this guy was crashing on my map and after extensive testing I found that some skins that I had made for a clear multiboard background and boarder, and a couple for a clear tooltip background and boarder, were causing the problem. I have other skins that I alpha'ed for the map. They work fine, even for his comp. This was causing him to disconnect from bnet during loading. I tried making several other multiboard and tooltip skins, none worked for him. Note: He said that he also crashes when playing notd, which also has a clear multiboard and clear tooltips. He uses: Apple Macintosh iMac. I plan on posting more of his system specs. |

this is not a question nor does it belong here... |

1) Last time I checked, you wern't a mod. 2) Who says you have to post questions in gen. dev.? 3) If your going to say how NOT to do something, maybe instead you should say how to do it. 4) I've encountered your antics before, telling me how and where to post. I should point out that you just joined this website a month ago, I've been a member for 2 years. 5) Please stop harrassing me. |

I dont see noting errors on here that are for your own custom imports. and im not harassing you im just showing you where to post since this is obviously not the place for it, if you look at people who post in the wrong place, ussually the first or 2nd post is directing them where to post it, its called helping. |

It seems to belong to general development, it does involve icons and triggers and a crash quite a mixed topic there |
| 01-26-2006, 01:18 AM | #6 |
hmm although he did say this was a skin problem and the imported skin /icon was causing the problem. this would be something that had to do with 2d art wouldnt it? because it really doesnt say anyting about triggers |

OP: Interesting bug, is the crashing restricted only to Alpha'd interface skins or all interface skins? (You were a tad vague on this point). If this crash IS consistant on all Mac's this info could probably be useful to a number of mappers. Immoralis: i'm concerned with your attitude on this forum, are you hoping to become a Moderator or some other such tomfoolery? This information applies to map development as, if his informatino is correct, it is not due to any error in his skinning (they work fine on his Windows comp.) Also, AFAIK the skiining forums tend to deal with the artistic side of skinning technique, somethign this thread is not about. EDIT: Noticed you mention triggers - this isnt the tigger forum, this is Gen. Development and thus covers general mapping techniques and implementation, not just "triggers" (or even object data). |

@OP - thanks for the info On an unrelated note, which probably belongs to another forum, how do i give negative rep? |
| 01-26-2006, 07:02 AM | #10 |
Only moderators can give negative rep. Hence the rapidly inflating rep values. |

I don't think it was a trigger problem in the multiboard because the tooltip skins did it too. Those tooltip skins are also are the skins for the chat message box and the floating tooltips, or whatever. Quote:
Actually, I have an alpha'd skin in the interface that works fine for him. It's a clear hero minimap icon. I didn't use a custom path. I just changed it in the interface, same as I did the multiboard boarder and background. Also, I did try leaving the interface default and just changing the path in the importer for the multiboard skins. That didn't work for him eather. The tooltip boarder and background definately made him crash as well though. I made a test using only those. The funny thing is, durring the first test of the multiboard, I took the skins out of the importer and accidently hit cancel when changing the interface path. the multiboard was all green, like when you forget to put an icon for a button. He DIDN'T crash, even with no skin on the multiboard at all. Quote:
You should do a test to see if you can play my map or NOTD. (see links below) Note to anyone that is interested in my choice of forum: This thread is about a bug that causes a crash. The title doesn't say, "How do I make an alpha skin" or "Check out this cool skin I made". Edited because: He did say that he crashed in single player. So it's not really related to bnet. NOTD is Night of the Dead. http://www.kingsforum.com/notd I'll upload my map, Sim Ant, to my websight and link it here if you want to test it. (uploading a release to my websight as soon as I do a final beta...). |
