Maphack in this context refers to the ability to see the entire terrain without fog of war using a 3rd party application or other unauthorized means. How would you disable or negate map hacking on your map? How does map hacking work? I initially decided on the idea of a periodic trigger that checks if all 4 corners of the map are visible to a player, and if so, boot the player from the game. However, I have been told that this would not work as the program just forces to draw the entire map, and the game may not recognize 'vision' of those areas. |

lol.. ur mistaken... There is no "map hack" first of all.. Thats just mostly noobs complaining in like tree tag cause people don't know how good skills are or something.. (example: Flare/ Far See) Secondly revealing the whole map is because u don't have fog of war on its not something that anyone can do without a trigger. |

It's not about game settings or triggers. It is a 3rd party application. I will insist that there is a maphack, thank you very much. |

i know and wut im trying to say is there is currently no 3rd party application for wc3 that i know besides spoofer and maybe the so called map hacking.. You can't just suddenly have the whole map revealed with a 3rd party application in wc3. There are none for warcraft III and there probably won't ever be because every map has different terrain and you would have to modify the map DURING GAME somehow to achieve this which is pratically impossible. Even if you could supposedly open the map up during the game theres no telling if the map has protection and you would probably lag out everyone in the game. Think logically.. every map is different and secured and theres no possible way for a map hack in wc3 and it wouldn't even benefit the player with it much giving even more a reason for people to not invent one. In other words, don't worry about it cause it doesn't even exist first off and second off if you don't want too much map revealed then limit sight radius on units and skills that reveal the area like far see or flare or wutnot. |

I presume that it works because every computer playing knows where everything is, but doesn't show it normally. The map hack would cause WC3 to display it on their computer - thus meaning that it doesn't actually affect anything on the map - impossible to detect. |

Hah, Switch33, you're so clueless. As to counter measures: there are none. A reveal hack can be applied locally so there isn't even a way to detect it. |

What happens if a player using a hack selects a unit that *should* be under black mask? As long as the selection registers correctly you may be able to use the "Unit is visable to player" boolean to ctach people. Something along the lines of: Trigger: Of course this makes assumptions regarding the mechanics of hacks that i cannot currently test, but hey, it's an idea. |

Nah, the maphack does not allow the selection of units outside normal line of sight for that reason among others. |

Yes it does? Thats (ithink) how blizzard checks if a person was maphacking a long time ago (I dunno if it still works that way now, they can prolly check if an app is in their memory). You could select the other players base and be owned by blizz next time they owned haxxers |

Not last time I checked, to my understanding you can see but not touch. Someone want to test it real quick? |

Just make a trigger that checks if a player is going too well . In that case disconnect him and show a message "probable map hack" Or reveal the whole map completelly. Or, a real one would be detecting when a player is going really well and the advantage is serious over the losers. To make it more interesting try giving the losers more chances to recover the game. For example make a rating- like system so when a player with low points beats one with high points it gets much more points than when a player with high points beats a player with low points. No one likes to continue the next 15 minutes of a game if it is already lost/won. seriously. |

The private pvpgn gaming server Blueserver cites its ability to crackdown on maphacks via a seperate necessary patch. www.blueserver.org I assume this process is not reproducible within the confines of a map, but if anyone has the expertise to understand that pvpgn's methods, perhaps we can develop something or give Blizzard meaningful suggestions. |
