Was testing out a new set of colour pencils. This popped up from the many roughs and sketches. ![]() Passable for an NE sorta thing...I guess... |

Nice work... it's cool to see you doing stuff again. Is it male or female? Because I'm guessing guy right now... One thing, on the scythe head... there doesn't seem to be anything securing the blade... just a small detail. icbm1987 |

I have a question for you, X, and by all means it's not intended to be mean, just out of curiosity: why do you draw anime? I want to hear (or actualy read) this from an anime "artist"'s point of view, 'cause I personaly don't know what's to like about this style, mabye you can show me a different perspective about this nasty (<- my opinion) style. Oh, and what determined you to draw in this style? And do you have your own style other than anime? Once again, I mean no offense with these questions so don't go beserk. |

I'm a design student, also an illustrator. Anime...that is what North Amercans would call the style. Correct term would the manga. It's basically the 'oriental' counterpart to your DC or Marvel style that your draw. And don't argue you don't 'draw comic' because that's the style you are using unless you are drawing still life or life drawing. Why do I draw anime? Because that's my style. The oriental that is me and therefore my art tends to take the more oriental swing. Personally imo it's much prettier than DC/Marvel (mind you I do love Crimson, Danger Girl, and Darkstalkers <--- this one is slight manga-ish ). Lately the two style's been mingling in the newer comics....Street Fighter KoF and Darkstalkers and what not...almost hard to tell with the newer ones that's not DC or Marval. Anyhow... What's to like and what's not to like...it comes down to what you're talking about. You may not like the simple lines and seemingly one-cell shade colour from the "American crap" you get on TV. But the books I read are intricately details and layered with heavy colouring and shading that easily puts any DC/Marvel stuff to shame (unless you're talking about the full scale realistic paintings they have, I'm talking about the cell shaded stuff). I like the stylized thin outlines of the body/content, and the different drawing and colouring style each manga artists has. Each manga artist has a style. I have my own. I just tend to get lazy once in a while and simply doodle random stuff that has the stylized eyes and body lines and be off. But when you look at like, most americans just say it's "anime cuz of the eyes". They don't look at the body proportion/arms/legs/colouring.Heck, if you give wonder woman the large eyes nearly everybody in this forum would say "it's anime". =/ Woo I'm sidetracking again. If you think this style is nasty, there's not much I can help you with. That don't like it = you don't like it = turn away. I just draw in this style because I grew up with this style, like your and your DC/Marvel stuff. I can say DC/Marvel stuff is downright nasty, but unfortunately I also like their stuff so I can't (spongebob on the other hand looks horrid...) I have my own style of drawing humans (life drawing....horrid memories). But if I want to do a comic strip (me, comic artist), it would be in my own style, which is unfortunately (in your view) manga-isk, since I did not grow up with DC/Marval/Batman/Superman. If one wants to get technical my style is not 'anime' or 'manga' but 'chinese'. But nowdays they're more or less the same thing: Oriental, Japan/Korea/China anything pick a country. If you are one of those blind onesided "OMG I HATE ANIME HATES IT HATES IT" people, I can't help you. But if you're one of those that doesn't like anime because you've only seen one small style/aspect/series/show off it, then I would suggest you to broaden up and see that the term 'anime' (manga) actually has styles/variations to it than 'Naruto' and 'Inuyasha'. I.E. Go for something that doesn't seem to have the large eyes. |

First of all, don't call me an american, 'cause I'm not (I was born and still live in romania - wich by the way it's not all beggars and dracula) and I haven't grown up with any of that "DC/Marvel" stuff. In fact I never read a comic book in my life and don't want too. I like your answers and your point of view, but the fact that I don't like manga so much is that every little retarded brat who watches a manga cartoon, once wakes up and thinks "OMFG, I wanna draw too! I don't know shit about drawing, but anime is sooo roxxx, I wanna draw that!!!". And so there is full of kids like that who try to draw manga without any experience and all they do is just crap. Oh, and I especialy dislike those anime chicks with exagerated huge boobs and the people who draw them. That denotes lack of common sense and sexual obsession imo. I used to like this cartoon style a lot when I was a kid, I was always watching anime cartoons, but never atempted to copy it (I was more obsessed with Doom those days...). I don't know what made me change, but one of the reasons is that wich I mentioned above...and mabye because of those big juicy frightening eyes...Aniway, now I don't like it and I won't comment anymore about this, but that dosen't mean I hate the people who draw it. Everybody has the freedom to do what they want and what they like. |

Gotta agree with TDR on this one, when the Manga wave hit Norway everyone i used to know as rather sensible became all "Dah, you are so stupid, i ALWAYS liked manga, and used to read/draw/drool WAY before it became popular" and was suddenly an expert. Manga is ok, although i draw a line at worshipping it... |
