any way to take out the vocals in a song?

is there any way to take the vocals out of a song?

CoolEdit Pro (and probably Adobe Audition) has a filter somewhere called the K filter, which basically removes the frequencies that human vocals are audiable on. If you run it through a song, it'll take out the vocals - problem is, it'll probably strip out a lot of the song as well and make it sound flat and tinny. It works better on some songs than others

well, it didn't work well - and it never does to be honest, it's not something you can do unless you're REALLY lucky and the song just happens to be one of the ones that this crappy filter works on. It being a low quality mp3 doesn't help either

Look, having the original sound file is not going to make a difference - the simple fact is, if you want music without vocals, you're going to have to choose a different piece or get someone to re-write it for you, the K-filter is just going to make it sound like crap.
