Hey, I'm Softmints and I'm the creator of Dota Outland. Let's start by saying I have no affilition with the Allstars crowd at all. Outland's full of totally new heros and spells, most triggered. However, the community isn't very big, and we have very limited hosts. So here I am, trying to round up a few. The map has many extra features, including (but not restricted to): ~Well made terrain ~Trigger and (some) Jass enhanced spells. ~Unique heros ~Lots of imported models and icons. ~Item "Recipes" to use the common term. ~Various game modes for added fun. Download Dota Outland, test it, and report bugs either here, or at http://dotaoutland.tt.cx. Have fun! |

Why do people insist on calling their maps "Dota" instead of making up their own name. It's either to steal popularity or because they lack imagination. And why would it be in Outland? The real Dota story is about the scourge invasion of ashenvale. Anyway it seems like a pretty normal AoS, the heros were ok, some of the models looked iffy. And this is a lie. Quote:

1. I am not stealing the name Dota. This map is two years old, and Eul declared the game opensource. There are only about 3-4 other varients of Dota that I know of, and none of them are named or remotly related to Outland. 2. The character stories and three books near the middle lane explain why the battle is taking place. It mightn't be the best story ever, but it's the best I can do. 3. I've had a lot more comments admiring the terrain than this being the second to critisize (sp?) it. Models looked "iffy"? What do you meant by "iffy"? |

I could be wrong, but I think he's pointing out Ancient's have never exsisted in DotA, nor have they been of any importance or have any relation to the map. I'm probably wrong but =P just a guess. |

If you read the info on dota outland, you would know that allstars and out land were both released at the same time, both had a fair playing field at the start, outland got the crappier side of the deal and is less know. |

hey, i might be willing to host it... |

It's good to see so much discussion in a short space of time . Yes, we both started at the same time, and I wasn't in a clan or any other community at the time, so I lost out. Ancients refers to the Night Elven buildings, and the game is about Defending/attacking them.I'll be releasing Beta8 today, fixing all the bugs that I found. Remember to write down bugs and post them here if you're hosting! |

DoTA = Defence of the Ancients. You don't even know what your map name is about. How silly. |

Of course I know what's it's about! Where'd you get that idea from? |

Since you seem to know what the Aincents are, you should understand his question: Aincents are from Kalimdor, so, did you invent new aincents for Draenor, or is your map named DotA without even having any aincents in it? Quote:

Extract from the Storybooks in Outland: "Since the Leigon was vanquished from Azeroth, the Night Elves pondered over their next move. The forests were healing slowly, and their immortality had been lost. It was decided to create a second Elven capital to endure, should Azeroth be lost to a third invasion. The elves build Jadewood, a small citidel in Outland, cultivating the land. The portal they traveled through was in a cave, at the roots of the World Tree, known only to the like of Cenarius... or Ner'zhul. The Lich King, now free was working on expanding his empire. Lordaron had become the Plaguelands, and Khaz'Modan would hold for a little longer. Soon Azeroth would be his. But the Night Elves stood in his way. If he could get them from behind, his victory would be assured. Using a second portal with a destination close to Jadewood, he sent a small force, but of the highest quality mercenaries through the portal to assault Jadewood. However, his powers could not go through, so he took ancient artifacts - the Eyes of Grim to channel his will, one to transmit through, the other to receive in Outland. The World tree would be destroyed for sure if he could send an invading force to it's roots. And now the battle is in the hands of you, the players. To decide the fate of Azeroth. To decide the world." Note: Grim was one of the Great Demonlords, along with Kil'jaden. He was an Eradar warlock with two huge green eyes, and thousands of souls orbited him in the form of lesser eyes. You can see the transmitter eye in the undead base, and purchase his lesser eyes to reveal invisible units in the shops. That's the story. The two sides are the Night Elves (and Humans, High Elves, Orcs...) and Undead (with Demons, and other mercenaries). There are Ancients in Outland for this reason, as well as Maiev, who remains unheard of (because I don't know what happened to her). Hopefull that clears everything up. |
