Seems straightforward, I was wondering if it was possible to prevent the use of an item until a specific techtree requirment was met. Naturally I tired putting the requirement into "Techtree - Requirements", and setting the required level to 1, but unfortunately, the item could still be used without the "requirement" being met. I think it has to do with the fact that the "Techtree - Requirements" for an item only effects its purchase. Insights? Thoughts? Anecdotes? I did a forum search, this is the closest I found, but it doesnt exactly pinpoint my problem. |

Have you tried giving the techtree requirement to the ability that the item uses? |

You have to find the orderid for item use, and then make a trigger that will order a unit to stop if he is ordered to use an item and the conditions are not matched. |

Yea, I tried that shortly after posting and it failed to work. Which is shame because that seems most certain to work. Well, in an effort to compensate for this, I created a dummy item, which looks the same and has the same description, but doesn't do anything, and at the beginning of the description I put: "Required Training: - Blarg Blarg" Only problem is, there is a half-return between the item name and the beginning of the text. Now since I am nit picky, and there is a half-return between normal abilities that have requirements, I was wondering if there was a way i could create a half-return between the "Required Training" text I put at the beginning, and the rest of the description. Question, I duplicated the "defend" research as the technology for the item, and used the newly created one for the item, but I noticed that some abilities will activate even if you copied them, and made completely new ones. Wondering if that was the same for technologies. I'll try another technology as a requirement, since I think I have a trigger to allow the defend ability anyway. Sorry if that didn't make any sense, sorta in a hurry, and a bit tired. Thanks for your help! |

Thats only half the problem. The other problem is getting it to show the yellow/goldish requirement in the item description. This is what happeneds when you try and fake it. (large box is the item with the manually state requirement) ![]() As you can see it doesn't do the "half-return" that it does when the game inserts it itself. I'm anal I know, but this really should be possible. I can't imagine that its not supported. |

You can't do a half return. |

To tell you the truth, I couldn't even tell they were different until knowing the "problem" and looking very very closely. I don't think anyone is gonna notice =P. |

Arg. I'm so anal! |

I still can't note what the problem is. |

Did you see the picture? The descriptions start at different vertical positions |

hmnn. No offense but I would rather call it obssesive/sick/nuts/crazy instead of just annal |

I have a high quality standard, but in either case, I didn't call my self annal :P I think the best solution is to just ask blizzard for the ability to give items tech requirements :) Thanks for your help guys! |
