The Ultimate Card Game

Hello,

After playing a map called Card Shuffle, I decided I'd like to make the ultimate war3 card game map. It will basically import bits and peices from every card game. By card game I mean Magic the gathering/Yu-gi-oh etc. not black jack/poker.

To begin with there can be any variations of teams
At the start of the game the teams can be anyway the host wants
- free for all
- 2v2v2v2v2v2
- 3v3v3v3
- 4v4v4
- 6v6

Lastly he can then pick either keep the teams as they are from player slot 1-12 dividing in that order or randomly shuffle and give every1 there random partners.
Then the players can pick there decks.

I would like to keep it fairly simple and straight forward. The card types will most likely be
- Spell Cards - General spells that usually have a one time effect
- Summon Cards - Can summon creatures to attack or defend
- Equipment Cards - Can give creatures equipment
- Ability Cards - Can give creatures abilities
- Structure Cards - Can summon buildings in radius of Caster

After the teams have been setteled you can start picking cards for your deck. It will most likely be around 20-30 cards.
Your *hand* will be your main Heroes Inventory (1-6 cards)
Your *lifepoints* will be you main Heroes Hitpoints
The obvious goal is to reduce your opponents lifepoints to 0.

At the start of the game you get 6 random drawn cards.
Every 20 seconds, you will get a drawpoint which you can use to draw a card. When you draw you will recieve a random card from your selection. Currently I was thinking for simplicity you can never deck out and you simply get a card on % probability from your selection.

Creatures will be classified under race and class e.g.
Human - Cleric / Human - Wizard / Human - Soldier
Orc - Warrior / Orc - Shaman / Orc - Mage etc.
There will definetly be a few cards that specifically target races or classes in positive or negative ways. It is possible for multiple Race/Classes
For creatures types I will probably generalise, with Human/Demon/Undead etc. grouping them up to keep it nice and simple.

I would prefer the game to resolve more around a small handful of elite Hero creatures per player than masses of swarms. There will be no limit to the number of creatures you can summon but wach one will be a hero with it's own strength and weakness.
You can give them equipment to make them stronger or bestow an ability for them to use. Some Spell cards will buff/curse units as well.
There wont be much creature removal, it will mainly evolve round empowering/depowering summoned units.

Buldings will mainly be more defence, auras and empowering/depowering effect on your Hand.
They will be placed in radius on your Lifepoints so he can be destroyed by physical force or with spells.

There will be quite a few game mechanics Id like to incorporate. such as Kicker Costs/Entwine/Cycling etc. from MTG
So some cards will have a few potential effects you can right click on the card (item) to change it, or right click to discard to draw another card etc.

Lastly Id definetly like *Polymerization* to play a part, which is basically merging 2 or more creatures into 1, combing there power.
E.g. Paladin + Necromancer = Dark Paladin
I would most likely have it so you can only merge certain units together. Such as only same race + same race or same class + same class.

I havent actually started anything yet, I have quite a few ideas for cards but I just thought Id post here to gather some ideas.
As for Team Gathering I think I can do most of this myself it shouldnt be to difficult.

If theres any good triggerrers/jass'ers would be willing to design a good card selection/drawing system it would be cool:-)
Modellers/Skinners and especially Icon Artists are welcome. Also Special effects.

If anyone has any ideas for a Hero / Abilities / Equipment / Buildings / Spells im all ears.

I would suggest picking one theme and sticking too it. For instance MTG. It's tried and true, and venturing into multiple card games is risky. There is so much you could do as far as MTG goes. For instance, all your land cards, you could simply have them build a building when you use them, just like those miniature barracks items etc. Then you could do some fancy trigger work, where if its your turn, (oh yea I think it should be turn based, that would be cool as much as I hate turn based games, but this is a card game) you could click one of your lands (a building) and then remove the building, change the building face degree (I heard you could do that) and then place it again. Then the land would essentially be "tapped". Man, lots of potential here. That would be really cool. But if you're going a different path, thats cool.

Oh one more thing. You could help your self out by getting the basic framework down, and then, have new versions where you add new decks. You know so you don't have to do it all at once. You could add 7th edition, and then 8th, and then whatever those new decks are and stuff. Something like... Vengeance, I don't know, I haven't played for so long. I mean, you have all the basics there pretty much. You've got orcs, goblins, elves, undead, demons, humans... Man, this could be really cool. WC3 + MTG = 3D MTG PWN.

This is the evolution of the MTG map. I think having it like this will be more fun as AOS's tend to be overdone.
I can simply copy custom abilities over from that map.

SpaceHulk map was my brothers map which im giving him a helping hand.
Starcraft map is finished

Not particularly, give me any Creature card or any spell card that could fit into war3 and Ill most likely make it.

I've been working on a way to classify each creature into
Race / Class / School.

I'm trying to get a playable version asap, to demonstrate how it will work.

If youre gonna make it a combination of the "card games" you could look through some sites with the cards, that might give you an idea.

Hey I would be willing to help with any terrianing or Triggering but the one thing I can't do is jass I don't know why but every time I try to learn it things just don't work out.

I think im ok with the triggers for now.
Ive managed to get the team shuffler working and player1 can pick what type of teams.
Also think Ive got a simple pick cards for a deck and draw a random card from your deck working.
Terrain is very basic, ill keep it like that until I get a beta version ready.

I decided to merge some cards together, as I want to prevent players from having useless cards in their hand. Cards like debuff / remove equipment will all have other uses as well.

Spell cards and Ability cards are now one.
You can choose to cast a spell or transfer a "weaker" version to one of your creatures. Spells wont be compatible with all creatures.

Im starting of with Elemental spells, so any ideas would be fantastic.

Wait, how much life does the caster start with? The point of the game is the kill the caster, no?

Elemental cards, huh... Just think of some random stuff?

Something like this?

Aftershock: (Earth?) Deals [X] damage to the target unit, [X/2] damage to the closest unit, [X/3] to the next closest unit, and so on to the 5th. If there are no available targets after each unit is hit, then it no longer bounces.

Well, the Card Shuffle is a terrible map and severely lacks game-play and has NO tactics what so ever. I'm not quite sure how you're wrapping this up but I do remember seeing other lame war3-ultimate card game wanna-bes in the past. Your ideas sound very simple, but you still haven't really elaborated on the actual gameplay. Is it turn-based? Are there different elements implemented? I really hope it won't turn out like the 'card shuffle' crap, (sorry to down it, but honestly, wud up?)

As for some detail on card shuffle, There are about 9 different element decks (no elemental weaknesses at all) and each consist or primarily 4 cards each - meaning you get a LOT of double-ups. When you do finally get a monster card, you use the item while it ends up taking a majority of your mana, and creating a summoned creature which eventually walks up to the player across from you and attacks it. If they dont summon anything while they get hit then they are essentially dead. As for a card game? It's not really. It just uses the word Card in place of item. Really all it is, is your hero casts spells and kills the other hero - turn based? Nah, It's quite chaotic.

As you can see, I really dislike this map as well as a majority of the masses. I wish you luck on your project but I am forwarning you that the odds of your theme being a success is quite small. Don't let me ruin your fun but keep this all in mind when you make your map.

Ok, I've added a prototype map to original post.

It's a simplified version of what Im going to build it into.
Basic spells and units are used in this map.

There are no dought a few bugs/glitches here and there especially with tooltips.

Feel free to give me feedback, but please keep in mind it not even beta stage yet.
