What does everyone think of SP RPGs in WC3? Input on both what you like about them and dislike would be appreciated. Secondly, what do you think of turn based combat systems in WC3 RPGs? Good/bad things about them. If someone made an easy to use and implement version, would you use it? Any input greatly useful. |

Firstly, most of times SP RPGs are better, xcept if someone makes it quite as Diablo tho. Secondly, I hate turn based combat systems in any RPG game. Actually because in an RPG I need to feel like the hero, and the turn based systme makes it... quite boring for a true battle, I love battlying in real time, feels more... real xD |

For Wc3: Don't like turn based, don't like single player. |

Ill never play a single player map/game I just find it so boring. Its different when you buy a new game and run through a quick tutorial to understand how it works. Turn based, well its really bad in a 12 player map, especially when you have the odd one or two laggers who lag up every minute or so. I could see a multiplayer FF turn based map system working quite well thou :-) |

Only make it single-player if u need map transition, or really hate save/load codes. multi-player maps can be played singleplayer, but singleplayer maps cannot be played multiplayer, becus of that, i suggest u only make singleplayer rpg if u need the two things i mentioned above. |

Just to point out, this is specifically single player. I designed a SP turn based combat system because of an idea of how to make one very elegently using shared control (and give one in the eye to JASSers by doing it almost purely in JASS), and it turned out to be far better than expected, so I created a demo map for it, with a short back story, and I developed it into a full story line in the planning stages. Wondering whether finishing it off as a fairly shortish RPG campaign is worth it. |

Finish it, I may hate turn based fights, but if well done they could get good |

Any Turn-Based RPG is good for me. However, I have run across some very SLOW Turn-Based RPG's. MagnaCarta(PS2) is a good example of a SLOW RPG. As for Warcraft, I wouldn't mind either. You guys probably just don't have the patience to play such games. Warcraft orginally is a 1 player game. So, a 1 player RPG for warcraft isn't a problem for me. However, if it's really slow, then I tend to get impatient. If someone really did make an easy to use verison, of course I would use it. |

I would use it, though I never ever finished any true maps xD |

You should play Final Fantasy 3(US) 6(Japan) on SNES. Best turn based RPG ever made imo, in fact, best RPG i've ever played. To answer your question though, basically you can only perform one action after a certain amount of time, say, 10 seconds. You get your turn, enemy gets their turn, back to you, back to them, etc etc... it may be boring at times but it allows for more complex fighting because you have much more time to pick and choose what you're moves are going to be. |

Take hints from some really kickass RPGs, e.g. Morrowind, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate . . Morrowind for its freeform character development, Neverwinter Nights for its story dynamics, Baldur's Gate for its great storyline. |

The major reason for making an RPG SP is so that it can actually have a decent story line which you can explore at your own pace. The turn based combat system I have is more like FFX, in that it's conditional - so different actions require different cooldown periods. |

I did much the same thing. I had an idea for a system that I wanted to explore, so I implemented it, and so doing made part of a map which I just continued to work on until I had a single-player mini-rpg. It's rewarding. That map is fun. Do it. |

I think singple player rpg maps are the best kind, i find it quite boring acting out the same abttles on the same maps for no apparent reason, on the oocasion that i do play warcraft 3 as it shoudl be, i make my own map, which is useually a situation type battle, nopt really a free for all [useualy its my big ass castle vs 11 computers..heh Infact, i'm makeing a map like this right now, my huge fortress in the middle, and toens of enemies trying to get in. |
