Free Sound program?

Is there any basic sound editing program that allows you to crop and fade in/out? thats all i need

I thought I'd already mentioned protools before, but if I haven't I'm sorry, it's a great free piece of software, should be all you're looking for

I didn't think anyone specified an operating system, my bad.

Look yourself on google or something for freeware editing programs they're out there.

I don't need to look, I'm sorted for that, and I've also offered you a program, maybe a response other than a rhetorical question would be nice next time.

Audacity is a great freeware sound editing software and supports Windows, Mac OS X and Linux/Unix.

But how long does it last?

I've burned through two sound edting programs(blazemedia wavepad) allready and none of them say anything about a 30 day period ,they tell you at the end.
I really hope this one is an exception because I really don't want to resort to downloading illegal things.

Usually things from sourceforge don't cost you anything.

Audacity is completely freeware as far as I'm aware, it shouldn't expire

I use goldwave. It's a great program and not hard to work with.
