Campaign (kinda): City of Dark

CITY OF DARK (for the love of god this needs a better name!!!)

This is only a single map, but it evolves as the game progresses.

THE PLOT
The plot revolves around two families, who control factions of the city, which are in constant struggle. There is also the Mayor's faction, but its power is little. (btw, this is NOT set in the wc3 world, its in its own, evil rotting world)
More later...

THE MAP
The map is a huge sprawling and dark city. It consists of slimy, putrid slums, and noble clean higher class portions. There is also a marketing faction.
Outside of the city are monster and bandit filled forests and sprawling farmlands. There will be periodic rainstorms, and the whole game will take place at night.

THE CHARACTERS
There are 3 (up to 3) teams which can fight. Each team can have up to 3 players. (might make it 2 teams of 4). The players control evil totally new skinned mercenaries.
Here is one of the innovative parts of the map: As a character kills enemies, the weapon he uses (melee, range, magic) will automatically evolve the class of the hero. I plan on having dark classes like assassin, etc. The characters will all be cold, with little emotion.
This map will utilize a 3rd person camera type, pretty far behind the hero, but turning with them.

DEVELOPING STORY
This map will utilize random quests. These will include assassinations, thefts, game hunting, kidnappings, and possibly more. They will be randomized, but the outcomes affect how the city interacts with a player.
Ex: If a player steals from one family, that family may put a bounty on that merc team's heads.
As the story plays out, depending on what "missions" are completed, one of the families may take over the Mayor's faction, and almost inevitably the families will break into total "war." (the amount of work you did for each will determine your allegiance)
With this premise, I am trying to decide how each team will win. Kill each other, be part of the Family which controls the city, rise to be mob boss of the family?
Maybe performing missions raises prestige as well as money? no idea

So far that is my starting point. What I would like help with is:

TERRAINER: Someone who could make this huge dark city map. I have tried, but been unsuccessful.
TRIGGER EDITOR: I can do alot of triggers, but need help on the random mission triggers, and some others.
MODELLERS: May not be completely necessary, but could be useful.
CONCEPT: Need help coming up with classes, names, extra ideas, more missions, etc.
SKINNERS: I plan on doing many of the custom skins (there will be ALOT) but still need lots of help.
SPELL EDITORS: If we use custom spells, I'll need help in this department.

I think thats it. If interested, have questions, whatever, plz post or EM me at [email protected]
I have a ton more bits and pieces of info, so any questions (no matter how open or specific) you may have, please ask.

Sounds like New Reno in FallOut. How can you make such a complicated idea definitely work in WC3? I take it you are doing the majority of the mapwork.

It is actually pretty simple. There will be many conditions which will make certain situations occur, and the conditions will be specific occurances of random events.

The rest is all just basic map making, with unique shops (some hard to find in the crowded city) and creeps like thugs and bandits.

Also, character development wont be too difficult, I am going to link the characters exp gained to other heroes, and as those np heroes level, the main characters hero develops too.

That answer some questions, or did I miss something? I could really use help, if only on making the map and the random mission triggers (I know they can be done, I just need someone to help me)

Sounds good! I'll attach a pic of what I originally thought of the city, but I am completely open to new ideas, etc.

Other Notes: The whole game will be at night, to make everything seem darker. There will be periodic rainstorms, with lightning, during the game. Also, the camera will be 3rd person above the character's heads. (I'll be able to do that)

I can skin things for you, in exchange for some mapping or modeling on my own campaign.

Kojira,

Well, I'm not sure I'm gonna need that much extra skinning, but if I do, I'll be sure to let you know.

I cannot model, but I can map decently, so if you need some intermediate mapping help just let me know!

im working on the map on paper. My cd-rom isnt in yet. it looks cool so far. Do you want a river running down the middle of the city. how about the slums in the back and a the two controling families are at the front surrounding the mayor.
you might want to have gang wars in the slums with the mayor sending in troops to break theam up maby the character cna join a gang or the mayors troops
just some sugestions

Blank:

I too have been thinking, do you think you could have a river running throughout the city, more as cannals and sewer water? We could use the nasty Felwood water or something.
Also, I plan on making the "gang wars" be in AOS fashion, so keep that in mind when placing the housing of the families (as long as it looks cool and works, it's all good)

The map will be able to be a 3-way AOS between the families and the mayor, or a 2 way between 2 of the three, depending on what has previously occured (maybe the mayor has been taken over, or he has confiscated the property of one of the families, whatever)

Sounds cool tho! As soon as that CD-rom comes, send me a pic! (if you have a scanner that is )

The characters will automatically join whatever side they have done the most work for.

Keep it up.
