Anyone that knows GIMP real well please give me a quick explanation of how to alpha using GIMP. I have done successfully before with PS and Paint Shop Pro but now I am using GIMP but I cant seem to figure it out?

I can gain access to the channel but not consistantly alter it so please.....

Thanks.

Also does anyone know why you cant save ALPHA TEXT layers in psd format using GIMP and then open the psd and have the ALPHA layer be editable?

Thanks.

get photoshop, that way you dont need to use slpha channels. Theres a little trick you can use.

Save your image as a Tga, then edit it as if it where a regulair photshop file. You can do everything, make layers and such, even save it as a psd. But if it was ever saved as a tga file, it will remember that you have that nice alpha channel. Now if you delete stuff in the PSD file so bits become colorless (checkered grey and white), those colorless bits will become black in the alpha channel: thus see through.

I have photoshop. It causes my comp to crash 10 times a day when I use it so... Anyways i need EXACTLY how you would do it and if you havent used gimp you dont know that what you are saying doesnt work the same way as it does in PS. If you have then give me exactly the method cuz ive tried and it wont alter :P

Thanks

I've used GIMP on .tga files to alter the alpha channel and I know the frustration you have. It took me a little while to figure it out. You need to select the eraser (the big pink looking square) and set the opacity to 100. If you have an alpha channel, it will erase to the transparency. Just erase where you want the team color or the alphaed out part.

I know there is a % of opacity you can set the eraser to and it will not completely erase the 's geoset. It will make it see through, like a ghost. This doesn't work too well on the team color reigons though.

I believe this is how it is done, I will double check tonight to see if I am correct.

EDIT: Ok, opened up an old file and tested it out, works fine for me.
