Shrinking Terrain

04-11-2006, 07:34 PM#1
Tim.
I need to make my terrain feel much smaller than a normal War3 terrain in order to be properly scaled with my units and buildings. This means making (for example) the grass tile seem a lot smaller than it normally appears. Anyone have any idea on how to go about this? I don't want to use a custom camera.

well yes I have an idea, just extract the grass texture, and edit to make it smaller, so where 1 tile would've been b4 you would have 4 tiles. (It's a bit confusing but I think I know how to do it, ask on MSN if you want)

So you mean take the texture for one tile and paste 4 on instead but smaller? They wouldnt match up properly if thats the case. But if you mean actually scale the size of the terrain being placed, then its out of my league ^_^'

It would work for the main tiled bit, but not the the borders and such. Also I would rather not import more custom textures.

Then a custom camera seems like the easiest (and only) way, whether you want to use it or not.

Constant loops? Yuck.

you can use it with the borders timmy, just copy the main, paste it on the other side and let the alpha channel turn it into a border thing.

Lower unit size?

Any particular reason? A custom camera seems perfect for what you need.

I think Tim is worried about needing a constant loop to keep the camera zoomed in.
An easier way to work it, however, would just be to have it so that pressing "Esc" zooms the camera in to where you want it, which also allows players to zoom out hugely if they want to.

Why is a constant loop a bad thing? I use constant camera loops in pretty much all of my maps, and I've never had any problems.

Tim.
Constant loops use too much memory if I want the game camera to always (Even when using the mouse scroll) be at a different height.

Taur: Alright, if you're so smart, make me one. :P
