What is the difference between a unit is ordered to attack and a unit is attacked. Any (dis)advantages of each?

Those are obviously entirely different events, meant for entirely different things, and thus cannot be compared in any reasonable way.

Order would be where you press 'A', then click on a unit.

A unit is attacked is when the unit begins the attack animation.

What is the difference between " a unit is issued an order, issued order equal "attack" and a unit is attacked?

One is based on the attacker, and the latter is based on the attacked.

eg: A unit is issued an order, order = attack, kill target of issued order
as opposed to
a unit is attacked, kill attacked unit.

The first kills any unit that the attacking unit attacks, the latter kills any units that are attacked.

No, the difference is the former is just an order. You tell the unit to attack. The latter is when an attack actually happens.

There are lots of things than can prevent an ordered unit from being able to actually carry out the attack, just as there are lots of ways a unit can attack someone without being ordered to do so. This is why they are completely different events.

This is not correct. The first kills any unit that the ordered unit is 'ordered' to attack. You merely need to tell the unit to kill someone for the event to trigger and the targeted unit to be killed; since the order will promptly be cancelled due to death of the target, no units will actually do anything at all (aside from dying).

You're correct about the second one.
