Special effect browser

A few days ago, I decided to make a more efficient way of browsing through the special effect files. This is what I came up with. As you can see in the picture, 100 effects are displayed at a time, each over the head of a different unit. You can flip through "pages" of 100 effects each using controls below the array. Also, because my inspiration was nub's original browser, I've included elements of that as well, for browsing through the effects one at a time. Finally, typing in a number (x12, x236) will display that effect over the head of a separate unit. It's a bit chaotic, but still it's pretty useful.

Edit: I've added in all of the models from the RoC beta. There are about three dozen of them. Most aren't all that noteworthy, but a few stand out (like the old death and decay). THese models are accessable by clicking on a new "water elemental" button, on the right.

Edit: added all of the new TFT models as well

This new file includes all of the models and textures needed to display those models

Click here for the new version. (with beta RoC effects and TFT effects)

This has been a very useful tool for me.

The only thing I can see that could be improved would be allowing another footman at the bottom to do the art "at", for example if you were using the fireball .mdl it would target the other footman and send it at him, this would allow a slightly better way to see animations which are normally done during movement, but other than that, excellent work!!!!

I use this so much that I finally had to add a link to it in my signature:) Great work, Ari.

Nice compilation. I personaly prefer being able to see the special effect "in action".

Yep, that's exactly the point of the browser. To see what it looks and SOUNDS like "in-game".

I also understand that RodOfNod made one. I DL'd it, but haven't tried it out yet. It can be found here:

I'd just like to announce that I have updated the browser to include all of the special effects that were cut from the RoC beta. There are about 3 dozen in all, of varying quality (many are pretty blah - it's easy to see why they were cut, but others are fairly impressive). The new map can be downloaded from the first post in the thread.

I think this is a great idea, but I can't open it:/. Obviously it's not meant for WE, but I can't open it in TFT either. Custom Game and double-clicking on the map doesn't work, there is no spot for me to use.

drats, that's right - tft doesn't like it when files are implanted in the map without the import manager, right? I'm still getting used to the thing. I'll try to cobble together a new version that has all of the effects in Roc, beta RoC, and tft, but in the meantime, you probably ought to download the other (smaller, non beta) version of this if you're interested.

Funnily, none of the two works for me. It won't start up at all. Pity, because I think this would make a great tool.

Damn, damn, damn. That'll teach me to assume anything (I hadn't opened either of them since before I got tft). I'll get on this immediately. Expect an answer tonight.

I hope you can do it, I'm hard-pressed to do the effects of my spells now and that map would be great for that:>.

Actully...why should we make one for TFT? TFT has it's own thing, when you check for your model, it shows a preview in the preview thingy..
