Try using Oinkerwinkles tools. Dont know how easy to find these days, but theyre a nice free download that can easily deal with a footmans sword. Im pretty sure there are a few basic geoset merging tutorials about that will be able to help you out.

Extracting weapons like this is really hard, but a lot of fun. You'll need 3ds max, a model importer, a model exporter, Yobgul's tools... Weapons are generally welded onto the models, so you'll need to erase the rest of the geoset, possibly complete some of the weapon yourself to replace where a hand might have been. You'll also need to line it up properly so that it attaches right. Yeah.

I've extracted the weapons from a bunch of characters. I suppose I could post them in a resource.

Attached is the sword. Use whatever path you want.

That is so unnecessarily complex... Oinkertools: vertex modifier. And either YobGul's converter or Magos' Model Editor. Nothing more, nothing less. Just take the geoset in vertex modifier, delete excess stuff, move it into position, export the geoset, possibly fill in some gaps (can't remember whether the geoset exporter makes a full MDL or not) and then convert. Bang. Two minutes, max.
