Now, I know the basics of detecting Memory Leaks and how to stop them, but I have a simple question which I have never seen asked: do Memory Leaks occur during Single Player missons/campaigns? Since they are Memory Leaks, my guess is yes, but I want to be sure. The thing that pushed me to be so inquisitive is that opening up some of the Blizzard maps, I noticed a few triggers which Leak. Knowing that the folks at Blizzard are perfectionists, surely they wouldn't let this happen unless it didn't affect anything. |

Yes, leaks obviously happen no matter if the game is single or multi player. The game can't just know which temporary objects like groups and locations are no longer needed. Blizzard didn't concern themselves with leaks because the use of triggers in their campaigns is minimal, and has little effect on the gameplay. It is only in custom maps with triggered spells and systems that are running all the time that memory management becomes important. |

The editor is / was the best of its time. Its not perfect. Not nearly. Go aroudn thinking that, and you will make crappy maps. Blizzard may be full of perfectionists, but nothing is perfect. They often get close to it, thogh x) |

And because leaks are considerably less significant in single player maps. Even Blizzard wouldn't mind a few one shot leaks in single player. However, even in single player you should avoid leaks, especially if they aren't one shot. |
