weird question on distance

Anyone know how much distance in warcraft 3 equals to something like inches, or yards?

example(may not be right):
Quote:
Range 500 = 50 yards

Well it doesn't, does it? WCIII uses a "Units" system of range, not yards or inches. And you can completely change the scaling yourself. For example, a range of 300 units might equal 50 yards unscaled, but if i make all the units scale up to 1.5 or 2, then that is no longer the case.

This is a really dumb question.

I'm talking about normal scaling

And that is? Not all proportions in wc3 really fits everything else, at least they did not last time I checked.

I want to kinda know how many yards equal warcraft units

like possibly 500 = 50 yards

The scale in the game can not be compared to a real-life scale

The scaling is not representative of real life anyway, units are far too big compared to buildings etc.

Yup.
Even when you look at one which a unit is supposed to be able to fit inside, e.g. a villager and a house, the villager could never fit through the door...
Plus the range on ranged weapons, relative to the size of a person, is ridiculously short.

100 range ~ length of one square, I believe.

no its 128, blizzard seems to like the ...64,128,256,512... scale

That's the one. I couldn't remember if it was 128 or 92. The reason they seem to like it is because powers of two work well in binary. Suprising that.

What's the actual purpose of knowing this anyway?

well its good to know for example when you want to move things one grid or something.
Also for spells when you want to control the distance of things.

Power of two.

Well, its not just Blizzard that does this but actually everything in computers (ignoring fuzzy boolean logic) because a bit is either a 0 or a 1.

Anyways, the units in warcraft is superfically designed. In reality, you could design it yourself because you control the scaling size, speed of units, and the terrain size. Of course, I don't think you would want to because it could easily get confusing and whoever is playing the game will have no idea how far "300" feet is but most people have a general idea of what a range of 300 is.

The numbers "64,128,256,512" are extremly powerful numbers when concerning computing, everything revolves around them, such as burning speed, memory size, resolutions, pixels, process speed etc
