Is convenient to use custom effects & buffs??

Hi everybody:

I have a doubt about effects and buffs, you can create a custom buffs & effects but they don't work all the times. for example, I tried to create an ability based on ensarne (I changed the missile art, name, normal things), I created their custom buffs changing only the description and the model art, but in game, it shows the default art, and I get disapointed.

I tried to search a good tutorial related with buffs and effects, but infortunately I couldn't find them.

My questions are:
  1. There is a good tutorial about buffs & effects?
  2. Is convenient to use a custom effect based on Blizzard effects, or is better creating them by trigger or JASS??
  3. Is it true that a buff only works with their respective ability (for example, put a sleep buff in an ability based on entangled roots won't work)??

Custom effects and buffs are essential to a polished and professional looking map. Buffs generally only work with their respective spell, so avoid mixing them.

I have never had any problems with them, aside from stupid mistakes like forgetting to change the buff on the ability, etc.

I have not come across anything where the buff/effect stays the same when changed, and I know that ensnare can be changed.

I always get annoying buff problems, try this:

Make a new custom ability based of the unit ability "Parasite".
Set durations to whatever you want, etc, remove the buff.
Try the ability ingame, everything seems as its not been changed.

Unfortunatly there are problems with things like these, but these are hadrcoded.

If you remove the buff completely, the default value is used instead. I had a problem with a custom stampede ability taking the splash effect of the original stampede, actually made me abandon that spell :o
