Wintermaul Wars Tournament Edition

Summary/Origin:
Hello everyone. I know what you are thinking "NOT ANOTHER WMW!", but this one should stand out among the rest. I have always been a huge fan of the 1000s of versions of this map there were floating over the internet, but I noticed nobody ever took the time to ever actually balance the game, keep races from version to version, and it was always laggy or buggy. So, I gathered as many versions of the map as I could, looked into them to see what races and units and style of gameplay I wanted, and decided to create a whole new WMW from scratch. The new concept I wanted to add at first was just plain ol' SuperSpeed, or sending units with no stock delays.
I started working on it in October of 2005, starting with WMW SuperSpeed Remastered. After time, I slowly started coming up with new ideas and additions that would be nice in the map. I didn't know much about triggers when I started, so it took me awhile to get a lot of it right. I had to learn about all the fundamentals, especially memory leaks. Anyway, after adding new game modes and some configurations I decided to change the title from SuperSpeed Remastered into WMW SuperSpeed Special Edition. It amazed me how popular it got so fast, but I always got the same complaint "It lags". I eventually got sick of working on it, so I eventually released a vFinal, but it was very laggy (thanks to leaks!). After vFinal, I tried to quickly release the new WMW SuperSpeed Resurrected, but it didn't really fix the lag and it was still buggy. I added a rematch system as a go out, but I killed off the project for about 2 months.

One boring afternoon, I decided "I'm gonna fix that map up and make it work better, no lag and everything imaginable." So, I started working on what became WMW Tournament Edition, improving over all the flaws of SuperSpeed. I added a multiboard to replace the leaderboard, perfected the rematch system, and fixed all memory leaks. I rebalanced the towers about 1000 times each, and added more units to send through more shrines. I will stop here, and list everything this map has to offer below.

Map Features:
- 43 races (41 original, 2 new races) all balanced in my opinion.
- 7 different game modes (see below).
- 3 race selection modes - Normal, AllRandom, and Same Race.
- SuperSpeed (mass sending, no cooldown) or stock delays (cooldown).
- Number of starting lives and tower limit.
- Unit killing towers spawn when the map reaches 110 units.
- Shrine auto-upgrades at 2000 income.
- Player 2 and player 5 get snowmen towers as a last defender bonus.
- Players may vote for a rematch when the game ends.
- New high-rez minimap and sleek blue interface.
- Players may type "cam" for a camera menu with 6 different viewpoints.
- Red may type boot for a boot menu.
- Animations may be enabled/disabled through Red's chat commands: anims/noanims
- Shop loaded with specialty towers typically not found in races.

Game Modes:
- Classic - The old skool style of WMW.
- Lifesteal - Steal lives when a unit boards the ship.
- Penalty - Lose random towers when a unit boards the ship.
- Hyperspeed - Units run 10x their normal speed.
- Greed - Income timer is reduced to 12 seconds.
- Double Mayhem - Combine 2 modes instead of playing with 1.
- Total Chaos - Combines all game modes and Penalty may be discluded.

Difficulties:
- Easy - Unit Hit Points are 75% of normal.
- Normal - Unit Hit Points are 100% of normal.
- Hard - Unit Hit Points are 150% of normal.
- Extreme - Unit Hit Points are 175% of normal.
- Unreal - Unit Hit Points are 200% of normal.

Additional Details:
All towers and sent units finally have hotkeys that work, and more "professional-like" tooltips. Every single tower has been rebalanced, every race recieved at least one new tower, and almost all of them have recieved a few tower upgrades (stronger version of the previous tower). A few races also have new concepts. A few examples are: Sheep towers have weapon upgrades unlike any other maps, and electricity towers use mostly damage from spell casting. I added a multiboard to track kills/towers/income, along with lives remaining, current difficulty and tower limit. There are 100's of changes and additions I made over the original design of Wintermaul Wars, I just can't remember them all.

This map is especially system intense in SuperSpeed mode, and it's not suggested playing it without the recommended system requirements that can be found in the quest log. If I ever decide to figure a way to stabilize it better, I will.

However, it will run fine on newer computers, and should run flawless if you have 256MB of RAM or more, a decent graphics card, and an AMD 64 bit processor.

I'm sorry but I tried to make the map as intense as possible with as little hardware needed. The above requirements mean "flawless" so don't think you have to actually meet them to play. I don't really ever get complaints about lag and I play SuperSpeed all the time. Every once in awhile someone with a Fred Flintstone computer complains, but that's about it.

Progress:
This map is 100% complete, and I don't plan on working on any more versions. This one should be close to perfect, and I will only release another if there is a sudden bug discovery that will tremendously affect gameplay.
