This post has two purposes. First, to ask a question: Is there a good Warcraft III implementation of the classic MTG map from starcraft currently in existance? And if so, where might one get it? (The classic map type I'm talking about is the somewhat zergling blood/footman frenzy/etc - like one with five players, periodic spawns, and plenty of spells and summons to go around. I remember enjoying that one back in the starcraft days...) Second, if there is no good/fun/playable WC3 version yet, what would you - if you've played the original, I suppose - feel needs to be changed/kept/updated in order to get it to work now? Wanting to make a map but not being able to come up with anything truly original, I figured I might as well make something that's at least a bit different from the things being played by bringing this one back to life. If it's truly dead, that is. If you never played one of the starcraft maps, this post might not say too much, but feel free to offer any comments anyway. |

There was something close once, but it died, and it wasnt as good... As far as needed changes, maybe some balance or something... but then... I dunno. Actually nevermind, the balance in that game was that everything was imba... Although, I think black and green had a hard time keeping up... And dont forget teh artifacts. |

I remember a MTG map in War3 that was exactly the same style, but it didn't really play out as well and never gained popularity. However, I think there is certainly promise for creating a new War3 map of that style. I'm not sure I would base it on MTG completely, for a couple of reasons... first of all, I feel a map should be timeless, and seeing as how Wizard of the Coast releases new MTG expansions like all the time, you can't make a map that really personifies all of what MTG is (it's outdated as soon as a new MTG expansion comes out) Now about how the new map would compare to the classic... it's hard for me to comment, because I only barely remember the StarCraft map (I remember I enjoyed it and played it a lot, but I don't remember exactly how it worked) |

The starcraft map had 5 teams, one for each color. Red was the color of lightning, fire, and earth. Blue was the color of water and had a lot of countermagic. Green was the color of nature. White was the color of... good? Defense maybe. They had some nice spells like balance. Black was the color of death. They got some cool spells. You could also get artifacts, which spawned infront of your base and did various things until they are destroyed. You got points somehow and used those to summon different units by moving onto their circles. Uh... This reminds me of that other map of the style. The Wizards one... what was that called... it was never as catchy but was the same style... ANYWAY the point being you had 5 teams. You spawned several units every so often. You got points every so often and used them to summon more powerful units, artifacts, and cast spells. |
