My Map has scrambled itself.

I wanted to update an old map of mine, but low and behold my map has scrambled itself. Any ides how to easily fix this? Or at least how to tell the files apart so I can rename them.

For those of us who do not have enough time to open every random map, what do you mean by 'scrambled'?

It seems like you've either used something other than the Blizzard World Editor or have done something which has modified the map files (ie map protection).

Possible that, if it is an old map, pre-1.1 (?), then it may have used modified SLKs or something else that isn't supported anymore.

Staying on this subject, but not as bad as scrambled, has anybody opened a oldish map of theirs, edited something then tried it and it does NOTHING.

I remember when i was a newbie mapmaker and i made a "Escape from hell" map, it was very unfinished and i left it, its just rotting my C: memory now.

I tried to change a units attack range (with newest version of WE) and it accepted it, but ingame the old range was still there

Odd

By scrambled, It looks as though somebody has run The Map Optimizer and The Widgetizer on it. E.g. In MPQ Editors, all the files are named: Unknown_000000XX

And I get the error in World Edit: Doodad File missing or invalid

And the map isn't that old. By old I meant when I first started playing Warcraft, which would of been 1.18

I've never seen that kind of thing happen to an un-optomized map before. There are ways to recover it, but it might be more trouble that it's worth.

I bet I'm about to be accused of trying to map steal.

And the only real reason I want to open is because it had a nice AI system for Footman Frenzy type maps and because it had my first Jass spell.

No, of being forgetful and not keeping an unoptimised copy, more likely.

I've never used the Optimizer or the Widgetizer. Guess I'm used to a different class of forums.

Well then, how did your map get screwed up? I've never had or heard of it happening to anyone else, even back as far as 2003, which is when my earliest maps are.

Only reason I can see was it was optimised/protected.

Exactly, thats what I'm wondering.

Haven't checked it, but maybe you used another tool that screwed it?

I have customized versions of: MiscData.txt, AbilityData.slk, UnitGlobalStrings.txt, WorldEditStrings.txt, WorldEditData.txt, SkinMetaData.slk

The only programs I use are Jass Shop Pro and World Edit Window.

Edited SLKs caused big problems a while back, when any map with them instantly became screwed up, due to the ability editor (presumably they changed the SLKs and how they worked or something).

If you have edited stuff yourself in the files, then odds are either you messed up, or a patch changed something. Having said that, that doesn't explain it messing up the MPQ...
