I'm trying to raise money to buy a new computer (donations anyone? Just kidding ) And I'd like to know good specs for a computer within around a 400-550 dollar range. Any suggestions, maybe good systems others are using?

Tim.
Anything you buy now-a-days should have no problem running War3.

That's good to hear : ) I'm thinking somrthing with either 516 or 1g RAM and high processer. Maybe a good Nvidia chipset or something, but I'm only 13. Money doesn't spray out of my ears or nothin'.

But... what if it did? :o

Anyway, yeah, wc3 is pretty damn old, as far as computers go, and as such it will run on most anything you can get now.

Ahhh... don't make me dream, PLZ. It would be nice to have money spray out of the ears (except for the earwax >< ) Thx for the input. I'll keep this in mind while im looking : )

Focus on video card and RAM . The rest is kind of automatic.

---
768 MB RAM
128 MB Video card
2.4 Ghz
Pentium IV
== wc3 smooth as hell.

I am sure that it is quite easy to get comps much better than that.

well as long as its within the range of about 400-550 dollars im good to go. Vex's seems good. I customised a computer on Dell.com that had specs similair to that of Vex's. 1Gig RAM tho. I'll recustomise. thanks for the help guys! Are the suggestions ive recieved in the 400-550 zone?

EDIT: are Vex's specs good for all settings on high? because all the settings are on low for my computer and it still lags on almost every map, custom or not. It probably has somthing to do with the fact that I've only got 256 RAM, half of which is sapped from XP and other crap. I'll customise a Dell 2morrow, but buying it will be the hardest part (dad ain't exactly happy w/ dells for some reason )

One thing...if you want to get the most power for your money don't buy from a company that builds them for you (ESPECIALLY DELL!). I used to have a Dell before I knew what I was doing, couldn't upgrade it or anything and it was slow as hell. Build your own, it's basically just like legos but you have to connect some wires afterwards =D. But really, all the parts will usually have easy to understand manuals and just look online for a guide on building it. Not sure if you already know of these sites but...
http://www.newegg.com/
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Home.jsp

They're probably the best sites for computer parts, and zipzoomfly often gives free shipping. Newegg parts costs less themselves but shipping is expensive ><.

Also, as people have said, pretty much everything will run WC3 at high settings these days. I love having 1GB of RAM, used to have 512 and things ran decent but now I can have many programs running at the same time without any problems (great for map making and coding).

I know what you mean about RAM. I used to game on tiny amounts and things ran bad... but I got a new comp now and its nice.

But yeah, at the very least dont do Dell, maybe Sager or something, I dunno.

My comp actually has Vex's specs and I run wc3 on 1024x768 and all the settings on high. I usually don't have any problems.

My old computers specs are:
550mhz pentium III
8mb Matrox Millenium or something similar
256mb ram
It runs Warcraft III fine on its lowest settings.

I doubt you could buy a computer like that these days. Probably being sold for spare parts...

£200 would probably get you a computer that could run WC3 really well. It has low requirements, due to it being old and an RTS.

ok, i wont get a dell : p Building a computer may be a bit extreme for me at this moment in time, but I might giva it a shot. Maybe I'll go hit the big mall and check out Best Buy, maybe CompUSA. what the heck is Sager?

To get WC3 runnin' you'll need like a... Monitor, a PC case with some fancy wires & stuff in it, a mouse and a keyboard. To get WC3 running on max details in a 12 player game on a map with a truck load of doodads 'n shit you'll need like a 4 GHz HT P IV and a 1 GB ram. And some videocard. Prefer. >= GeForce 4.
