Mountaineer WIP

With my little free time I have I am attempting to improve my skinning capabilities and imitate the way antihero does faces and beards. So I decided to redo an old skin, the mountaineer. So far the only thing I've done is the face, beard, and mustache. Comments on how those look are strongly appreciated.

And yes I know the beard is very orange .

I htink the face needs more sharpness and contrast, and the beard lines seem to be to straight. This is of course one opinion :P

It needs shading, the hood needs to make a shadow over the face and part of the beard.

Got a wee bit 'o time in, added shadow to face/beard and finished his hood. I mighty like that hood .

The colours should be less bright, and add more contrast.

That shadow is waaaay too big. It still has to make sense man, you have to keep looking at what you are doing, dont blindly "follow orders."

I do look at what I'm doing and I dont blindly follow orders:P I listen to what people say and incorporate that on how I think it should be.

'Nother update. IMO the wrinkles on the green cloth looks good. The shield isn't done. The concept for the body is weird cause I had no ideas on how to make it look.

First off, I'm flattered that you're trying to imitate my style.

Anyway, I spend a great deal of time looking at how professional game texturers and individuals trying to get into the field do their skins. I can tell you that the one thing I have observed is that above form, it's the colors that affect how good a skin will look when working at low resolution. It is amazing how good some artists can get their skins to look in minimal time by using big brushes and using the correct colors.

Now, this skins has the same problem that your other skins has. The shading on the face is all done with the same hue. When you use black to shade, you get a very unrealistic color that doesn't look right. A real face will have red and blue in therir shadows and some yellow in the highlights.

Other thing that bothers me is the moustache, it seems like he´s getting flashlighted from the bottom :\. Maybe try to make the lighting at the upper part of it and make that lighting a little bit darker.

The entire lighting scheme is just off, like you are not really trying to see a lightsource, just ass highlights in the middle and shadows along the edges.

The folds on the green cloth look terrible as well, it looks too fumbled. No mounteneer would wear something as fumbled as that.
