Clan TDG has begun a new series in mapping contests to be held every weekend. The TDG Mapathon is a 2-day (48 hours) event that is meant to inspire creativity by using a keyword as a theme and then allowing contestants 48 hours to create, develop, and complete their mapping project. The contest is primarily oriented towards interactive multiplayer maps (at least 2 players, not just a cinematic) and will be judged on the basis of 4 criteria: Theme, Playability, Ingenuity, and Potential. The contest begins every weekend at 5pm EDT (9 PM GMT) on Friday and concludes Sunday at 5PM EDT (9 PM GMT)- followed by a period of game play from 5PM on, where contestants will be given the opportunity to play and comment on entries. (Times are GMT, without Daylight Savings Time. EDT times are Daylight Savings Time) The contest is open to the public. The official rewards are small, but include featured map status on the Clan TDG forums/website and optional support (including but not limited to) dl only hosting and playtesting provided by Clan TDG, plus bragging rights. Anything goes with respect to custom models, custom script, 3rd-party editors, and entries do not need to be unprotected. For more complete description of the rules of the contest series, check the clan TDG Mapathon forum. http://www.jx3.net/tdg/forum/viewforum.php?f=64 This will be the 6th week of the competition. The first five were successful and had a few entries from various people, all of which have had great variety and almost all of which have been well made. (Admins/Mods, if this is in the wrong subforum, I'm sorry ) |

Considering it WAS credited to have been somewhat based off of the Clan MoMM speed mapping contests, I wouldn't call it stolen. Actually, I'm getting quite sick of the complete lack of worthwhile responses from MoMM people everywhere I've posted this where they have responded. |

There isn't a lot of people who have time to create a good map in two days. This makes me think that whoever actually makes maps in two days are complete freakazoids. Other people- referring to non-Wc3 and WE users have to use the computer, too. |

Most people have lives and 2 days to make a decent worthwhile map is near impossible alone, If I remember correctly it took a full blizzard team 6-8 months to create all of the maps for the WC:ROC campaigne. |

Actually, pretty much all of the maps made have been very well-made (there's maybe 2 or 3 bad ones, if even) You'd be shocked at what's possible for people to do in 2 days. |

I was joking :P Also, I agree with you about the quality of the maps that can (not always do) appear. People seem to be thinking of the wrong kinds of maps. Obviously a fully fledged map with lots of customisation and work put into it isn't going to happen overnight, but small, preferably unique, and fun maps. An example is Gadden's boulder map (name escapes me). The gameplay is simple, yet fun, and it didn't take half a year to make. That's the kind of maps the contest should be attracting. |

Unfortunately, that wasn't very clear. I can give link to all of the winners, as they've all been good maps. That should help give people an idea of the type of maps we've gotten. The general download site is: http://www.jx3.net/tdg/Mapathon/, although I'd recommend all of the winners/runner-ups, as they are the best. Contest #1 (Collide): 4 entries Winner: Mines of Mayhem by TheZizz Winner: Concussion by The1stSeal Runner up: Ninja by Kaye- Contest #2 (Lure): 6 entries Winner: Traps by The1stSeal Runner-Up: ForceBall by Reborn/QuickSmuggler Contest #3 (Fling): 7 entries Winner: Junk Chunkargs by KrewL_RaiN Runner-Up: Spring Fling 2006 by Shvegait Runner-Up: Rubble Rumble by GaDDeN Contest #4 (Amplify): 5 entries Winner: Arcane Amplification by Reborn/QuickSmuggler Runner-Up: Azeroth Power Brawl by TheZizz Contest #5 (Treachery): 2 entries Winner: Crusader's Call by TheZizz |

2 days can be anywhere between 20 hours and half an hour. It is massively favoured towards people with absolutely no life, and a computer of their own. |

All you have to do is think small. The map doesnt have to be totaly polished eather. Alot of the entrys have some bugs most of the time. You are not making the worlds biggest RPG map in 2 days, its more like making a minigame. Even an entry with hardly any flashy effects can beat out a map with a zillion bells and wistles......witch was the case with my junk chuckargs. I was surpized I won that round. All my map was is a few triggers and alot of object editing I quickly threw together. Alot of the time was just trying to come up with some silly things to toss lol. |

I was actually quite busy during the weekends of contests #2-4. But I still had a good evening to get some maps out, which was all the time my ideas for those submissions required. |
