While reading through the multiple JASS tutorials, I had an idea. Its simple but would help lots of people. I was thinking of a Challenge (like your Spell Challenge Blade) but for beginner and in this challenge, you create a spell (easy spell because its for beginner) and when you post it you don't post only the spell name, details, effects, etc. No, you post the name of the Tutorials you read to help you out, the name of the autors, the one that helped you the most and small amount of reputation could be given to the autor of the Tutorial. This would encourage people in making tutorial (probably) and give a chance to Newbie (like me) to improve their skills in JASS! P.S. Its only my suggestion (and the title is Beginner not Begginer :P) |

Of course, you could just read tutorials that people recommend and not have to go through a whole spell contest just to find them. A noob spell contest on the other hand isn't a bad idea, although you'd have find qualified noobs to join. |

I don't think many good JASS users will come and have fun doing a challenge where the spells aren't worth the time for people who don't wish to learn from them. |

I can join.. I am noob but, the problem is here, what is noob spells... blade's spells are still noob, tim's spells are uber noob |

Haha... To be fair, I think the idea has potential but the execution would be tough. We have the spell contests as is now, which promote good spell making on specific themes. Granted usually the most reputable on the site make them and they typically win, but that goes without saying that the more experience and creativity you have, the better you will do. Somehow I think if we all give credits where they're deserved that the authors of the best tutorials will get rewarded for their great tutorials. Good things come to those that do good things. |

Moved to Site Discussion. Everybody can join the spell contest, and as Jacek says, half of the spell making session victories have gone to "noobs"/"uber noobs". So everybody also has a chance. Well.. If more people want a more "simple" spell contest, one could eventually be made. But I need to know if anybody else has interest in it. |

Problems with suggestion: 1) Having it based around JASS is a bad idea. I am a newbie to JASS, having only started a few weeks ago, and with exams in that time having done very little, but with a solid knowledge of GUI and other programming languages, that is virtually no disadvantage. 2) What is a newbie? Major problem. Is it someone who has just joined WC3C, or is it someone who has just started making maps (very few of those)? Someone here for 3 years may not have had much time for the WE, while someone may have joined here yesterday and have been using WE heavily for years. 3) Related to point 2, where do you draw the line? Three months? A year? A week? Too subjective. |

You can join the current spell making sessions no matter if you use JASS, GUI or just creative object editing (must be very creative, don't waste our time). |

I joined, (still in need of idea :S) but I joined as a GUI spell Creator and if I want to create a JASS spell, this one will be very basic and unoriginal. |

the funny thing is when I rate spells I never look at the code ;] |

You should. If a spell leaks, it is a bad spell for most maps. Same if it is very inefficient. Quote:
Being new to JASS means nothing, as my example shows. |

If you can make it better with GUI than with JASS, then you should of course make it with GUI. No problems with that. |
