It's pretty good as a 2d art tutorial, but its not really a useful guide for skinning, since you made zero checks to see how it looked on the model, and completely disregarded the UVW/underlay after you drew a few basic shapes. For other games it's no so much of a problem, but War3 skinning is very awkward due to the shitty quality of model texture maps and various ingame considerations (light, saturation). I think I identified some soften/blend and dodge. While they're frowned upon, its undenyable that they work for War3 level of quality and are quick tools to use. Did you do all this on one layer? |

Looks neat, but you never showed how the actual skin looked : / The technique I like a lot. On a sidenote, what program did you use to capture youre screen like that? Maybe you have a link to where I can get it? >.< |

Probably Fraps. |

I can only get Fraps to work in a game. |

I noticed it didn't have the watermark either. |

also, a more elaborate discription of whats going on would be nice. Post some screenshots or the eventual skin in the thread as well, so it looks more attractive. Idealy, record a voice track with your video explaining what you are doing. In other news, try not to highlight with pure white and shade with pure black, mix some color in there (yellow for highlights perhaps? purple/green for shadows?) |

I never used dodge, burn or blur lol. Erwt what i do is i hghlight with white and darken with black then after i go over the white with yellow and other colors that i feel like and the dark usualy with a light purple. Ok, in order what i do first: 1. Color over the skin entirely, only showing a light underlayer. 2. I draw with about 30-50 opacity black lines showing the outer shapes. 3. I draw lighter lines with about 10-15 opacity for lesser forms. 4. I smudge the lines a bit at the ends so they look more natural. 5. I add 7 opacity shading with black and go over it if it needs more darkening. 6. I add 3 opacity highlighting with white and go over it a lot. 7. I do a quick sharpen :D. 8. I take a blue or purple and use 6 opacity in the shadows and even less opacity yellow on the highlights. (Can be changed, i prefer purple and yellow.) 9. I check and do touch ups. I do realise i should have checked to see how it looked on the model, but i was showing the technique not the skin. Given the ammount of time i had to do the skin i couldn't show much details because 5 mb is the limit. And no, i do not use layers :P.... |

You should learn to. Layers really do alot and really help organize skins and make them less messy. |

I know how to do layers, i just prefer not to. Dont try and force me or get angry because its not you who's making the skin :) |
