Hi, What I want do is make an item (I'll refer to it as a book) that opens a dialog menu when it's clicked. I've made the item and I've tested it out many times, but I believe the problem is within the object editor. In the trigger editor right now I have to where if the player's unit uses an item the menu will show, but when I use the book the menu doesn't appear. So apparently the book isn't being used. Book Properties: Classification: Charged Perishable: False # Of Charges: 1 I think the ability of the item is the problem. I don't want it to do anything when used, so I want something like Hold Position or Stop (the triggers will do the rest). I don't play melees very often so I'm not aware of what all of the spells do. I also want something that doesn't require you to target anything, something that you just click and it casts it's ability. Thank you for any help! I hope I made everything clear! P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. |

I think this is the time to use a dummy spell (a spell that does nothing). Although your problem could be in the trigger, posting it would help. |

Ok, well I have some pictures of both the object and trigger editors. I know that the Defend Ability doesn't work with it...but I just testing it. I even tried making my own spell. The object2.jpg image shows what I tried to make...I based it off of Stand Down and since I'm sort of new to custom abilities and stuff I tried changing that activation string thing or whatever to "holdposition" thinking it might execute the Hold Position ability instead of the Stand Down one. I do believe the problem lies within the object/abilities instead of the triggers because when I used a different object the menu appeared as well as the text. Again, thanks for any help! |

Defend is not an ability I would recommend. The best abilities to use for dummy abilities (imo) are the stat gain abilities. All you do is you set the stat gain to zero and voila, no ability. |

Well, my unit isn't a hero and it's not working. I tried it with a mana regain item and it worked...only it showed the effect/buff or whatever it is with it. I think the item hero stat bonus isn't working because my unit isn't a hero. |

If you're unit isn't a hero then try using the Item healing ability, except set the health gained to zero. ALSO: Make sure that you state that the ability is an Item ability. I think that might be your problem. |

Aha, I know what I did wrong now. Thanks for all your help! Now I just need to go back and undo all the changes I made to so many other spells :P. At least now I know what I can do if I ever need a dummy spell again. Thank you! P.S. By the way, I love your signature. Auron rocks! |
