Hey guys, just a quick poll to see opinions and get a general idea of who likes what here. Basically, I'm designing a mod similair in a lot of ways to survival maps, however it'll have a seperate MPQ and .exe. It'll be a sort of like the survival maps, as I've said, though a lot more involved, you'll be going through large complexes etc completing a large number of missions in a futuristic setting, sort of like some of the Starcraft Campaign missions for terran, but a lot more extensive. What I'd like to know is if you reckon this sort of map could benefit from taking a step away from Wc3, becoming a lot more realistic, think high res textures on models and tilesets, higher poly models as well, I know strictly WC3 can't handle many, but todays computers are easily powerful enough to handle it. If anyone has the same computer as they had when wc3 came out then they should probably get with the times rather than complain. Anyways, over to you, like to hear all your opinions on the matter etc etc. Cheers, Datajax |

High res is pointless (read: ugly and blurred) unless you're zooming in. |

Needs more tambourine. |

Style > Resolution. UT/Deus Ex > All, for example. |

High res textures are useless on wc3 low poly models. When will people learn. |

It would all have to be improved simultaneously. I think having only one thing high quality would look silly. |

Mr Staby, congratulations on not reading my post. Yeah Pipedream, looking into that at the moment. |

Well you got me there. But I have a rebuttal my friend: How about wc3's very poor color pallette? Just stick with a 256 or maybe even 512 textures for bigger things and be happy you have that. High res is nothing but trouble. Painting them takes lots of time and alternatly you can normal map them(this is not supported by wc3, but I'm sure you already knew that), which takes even more time. |

If you can pull it, great idea. I assume it would take alot of additional time so is it worth it? |

Yeah, current discussion going on in the IRC channel about waiting for Supreme Commander to come out. It'll give me a lot of time to plan out what I need/want and iron out all ideas. |
