Animation Contest?

Yes I am fully aware that there is a proffesional contest going on at the moment, but I was looking through at the numerous contests that this site itself has had, and I have yet to see a strictly animation contest.

Of course this could go many different ways, such as making actual movies with animations, but my proposition would be to have a good modeller (perhaps the mod running this contest) make a custom model of a certain theme, and the contest is to make a fully animated model.

This would not just test your skill as an animator, but also your creativity. The more original and flashy the animations, the better.

This is just a suggestion of course, maybe an idea for the future. I myself would love to enter something like this, it's good practise if anything. Although if no mod or admin felt like running such a thing, I might consider it (I'd have to talk to someone of importance about the awarding of course) (Also if it would be allowed)

So basically I'm asking, who would be interested? Who would like to watch such a contest? Who likes the idea? (And for the Mods, is this allowed? :P)

Discuss : )

Definitely sounds like a good idea; animating is definitely one of my favourite aspects of three-dimensional art.

There are way too few animators around for something like this to be taken into consideration. Have you seen the history of the modelling challenge? First time a good number of people entered, only for that number to be reduced to only 3 contestants in the 4th or 5th and last session. Animators are fewer than modellers, so think about it.

By all means, if many people would like this, then hell yes I'll organize this. I, myself, think it's a good idea, I like challenges...let's see what other people think though.

And RDZ, animation has NOTHING to do with modelling. Animation and modelling are 2 totaly different things.

I would go in, since animating is my strongest 3d-art aspect.

I'd hate to get people off topic but why not a team contest? 1 member makes a model and unwraps it and then gives it to the animator to rig and animate it while the modeler skins it.
Just an idea. When do next contest start already? It takes longer here than in professional places that have 8+ contestants and actual judges and prizes.

that simmilar idea is being debated. The problem is that we can't get people motivated, very few people here would enter challenges just for the pure pleasure and glory of being greater than he's oponents.

Mc !
I would love to enter any contest related in any way to modeling, so I like this idea, and I also like mr.staby's idea

wow, ok, so we have like 6-7 people willing to do this? Ok, then I'll do it, BUT if anyone who replied here saying that will participate won't actuactualy do something, then I'll find him and I'll hang him with his own guts and eat his liver and lungs. Got it?

Now, I'm going to make a model for us to animate. Any preferences? Say what general type of model you'd like (i.e. mythological creature, robot, alien, surreal thing, etc.; NOT green alien with pink skirt, a warrior with that kind of armor and that kind of weapon, a dragon with 7 heads and 7 teeth...so don't refer strictly to something, suggest a general theme) and if necessary I'll make a poll for you to chose from the most popular options.
