Well, hi there Uhm i've played a lil bit together with my father and recorded some parts of it with a headset microphone, i know it's not superb because of the quality and because there are only 2 instrument (sax & drums) and because of the fact i startet learning drums only 3 month ago (i did some mistakes on my drumset), but i hope you like it at least a little bit. =) If so you can tell me, and of course I'm openminded to all kind of tips/constructive critics ! http://mitglied.lycos.de/cookiesw/musik/jam1.mp3 |

These forums are pretty dead. I've tried getting more wc3 people interested in music but without success.. Anyway, onto the music. Is that really recorded with a headset mic? The drums kinda sound good quality for that. Anyway, since u've been drumming for 3 month I guess it sounds ok. What you really need to work on tho is continuing the rythm when you hit your crash cymbal, it is almost never spot-on on the first beat of the meassure. Also, try to bring something more interesting into your drums, try a break/fill sometimes, use your toms a little more. Also, in jam3 the tempo changes back and forth the entire jam long. Practise playing along a metronome. In jam3 I hear you trying some stuff thats new to you I suppose, which is good. Anyway, cant really give much more advice since u've been only drumming for so short. If you need any more advice i'll be here for you :) I dont know for how long i've been playing, but I'm playing dreamtheater mostly. Not that I can perfectly play it (my main instrument is guitar) but I just like playing along dream theater songs :) Anyway, you should join a band, cus only 2 instruments tends to get boring after some time :) goodluck |

Hr Hr, i already saw them live, they're really great ^^ Thank you for your tips, i'll try to practise them. =) I already try to play along a metronome, guess thats a really important training ^^ I think i'll record some drums of me in 3 months, maybe i've improved my abilities till then I think i'd better wait some time untill i join a band, i guess im still to low for a band. Maybe in a few months |

They're indeed great. I've seen them 3 times now, only wish I wouldve found out about them sooner. What's your favourite album/song ? Also forgot to ask, what kind of drumset/cymbals do you have? |

Favourite Song: A Change of Seasons Favourtie Album: I like scenes from a memory pretty much but theres no "album n° 1" for me, think every album has its preferences =) I got a Yamaha Rydeen with new drumheads from Remo (Pinstripe for the toms, powerstroke 3 for the snare) and a really sucky 16" Crash from Fame and a neat stagg 14" crash with a trashy sound =) The rest is standart equiptment from the rydeen set, (14" HiHat and 20" Ride... ) |

Isee :) Acos is my favourite too, and sfam is my favourite album just under images&words. Nice set youve got. I've always wanted 2 crashes but I just dont have the money. I've got a Pearl EXR with Zildjian K serie hihat, Sabian AAX Studio crash and some sabian ride. Oh.. and a P-122 double bass pedal ofcourse, how would I otherwise play DT ^^ |

Hello there. Please dont use rapidshare next time, had to wait 20 minutes to download the second mp3. Anyway, sounds alot more interesting with guitar :). The tempo thing is indeed better, but your hihat isnt very straight yet, but I can see you're getting better. Make some fills now and then! Listen to Dave Weckl, Vinnie Colaiuta to maybe get some ideas for your own style. Those drummers are awsome (and I guess you've heard of them :) ) Anyway, I liked listening to them, doing other stuff at the same time. Which is a good thing :) Keep it up! |

Interesting, most definitely. iNfraNe is right in that you need more variation; you change what your playing sometimes, but it should be more of a constant evolution throughout your playing. Switch between cymbals at will! You don't have to stay on the Hi-Hat the whole time; sometimes switching over to the ride or letting loose on the crash every now and then can really kick the jam up a notch. Maybe even try alternating not just on cymbals, but things like the snare and how you're using your base-drum. Rimshot backbeats and that sort of thing; put some extra base-drum hits in there if need calls for it! Maybe try experimenting with other types of sticks. If you can get off some nice rolls on the cymbals and toms, the music can gain a whole different, free-er feel. Is your dad playing a tenor? I myself am an Alto Sax player, and I must say... he's not exactly the most inventive player I've ever heard. If and when you jam with him again, try to get him to take risks, play with whatever 'melody' you may have developed in the course of the jam, and in general be more exciting and pronounced about his playing. As the sax player in a Gutar-Drums-Sax combo, he's the show. Out of curiosity, do you play Jazz at all, or are you just a rock/slightly funk drummer? If you play Jazz, I would suggest you listen to some Buddy Rich music. If you'd like to hear some absolutely amazing funk drumming, I suggest you check out the band Gnappy. I think their band is what you're starting to get at with your jam sessions. If, however, you can't find any music of theirs to pirate, I'd be more than happy to send you some. |
