More animation trouble.

Wow, I'm tired of being a n00b...

Well since Guesst's exporter isn't exporting my animations correctly yet, I decided to import my model to Magos' editor. But when I tried that I got this:

Edit: For those of you that don't know, I'm using milkshape. :-p

I *think* this may be because Magos' importer can't handle the comments. Delete all the comments in the model and try again.

But I will tell you this - Magos' Milkshape importer is no better than Guesst's for animations, and it is flawed in ways that Guesst's isn't. Nobody has yet been able to get animations "just right."

Don't worry, I've tried almost every way there is over the years

When I removed the comments the "OK" button stopped working... It won't save the change. Guess I shoulda backed it up as soon as I finished rigging and skinning.

Now what?

Er... Stop using Magos' importer and get back to supporting our man Guesst?

Agreed, I like his a lot better. Much simpler... But my rotations are wrong, and some of the bones don't rotate at all with it. *sigh* I understand that he's busy. I'll try to be patient. And I'd like to thank everyone that's been helping me for being patient as well.

One thing I used to do back in the old zero-joints days of kdub's exporter, was to make sure that a bone rotated on no more than two axes at the same time. To do that, I made sure each rotation was done from the zero'd orientation. I can't say for sure, but I do think it made a difference in some cases. Maybe zero your joints and try that?

Oh my goodness! I think I rotated at least two or three bones on all three axes! Thank you I'll try that and let you know.

Bear in mind this is the idle speculation of an artist that doesn't know or understand what's really going on

It makes sense that doing that would make it more likely to work. And if that does fix it, that would tell me where the problem is.

Ok I've tested it and sure enough rotating on 3 axes causes trouble. It'll rotate any combination of 2 directions. But when I try 3 the rotations I do from the front/back views (sorry I don't know whether it's x, y, or z.) didn't show up. At least that's what I kept getting on the bone I tested most.

If that's confirmed, it's good news and we know what the problem is... Don't we?

Well it keeps happening so I guess so.

We do, but we're not quite sure what the solution is yet. We'll work on it today.
