Um, yeah, new to this whole skinning business, I understand the fundamentals and everything, but I was wondering if anyone could help me with skinning the Blood Mage, what is his path? I have tried both units\human\Hero_BloodElf\Hero_BloodElf.blp and textures\Hero_BloodElf.blp, but neither worked the first one didnt change anything (it was the normal Blood mage) and the second made it so that only his shoulder pads were showing o.O any ideas? the skin i made was a .tga before I converted it to .blp if that makes any difference |

I use WC3 Viewer to get the path for the models, you only have to find the model you are skinning, and then press CTRL+I to see a list of them... To see the models list you have to click on OPEN and OPEN MPQ (war3.mpq for RoC models and war3x.mpq for TFT ones, both in the warcraft folder). There are other ways to get the paths, this is just the method i use :P If you still have problems getting the path then post again and i´ll tell it to you, but it´s better that you learn to do it by yourself |

He got the path right, its textures\Hero_BloodElf.blp (not case sensitive i believe). THe problem is with the skin. What exactly happoned? did the shoulderpads show as teamcolor only? And was the rest just invisible? Becouse in that case, the problem lies with the blp file, in that it most likely has a corrupted alpha channel. What programs did you use for converting and graphical editing? |

Yes, only the shoulderpads showed up. I used Photoshop to edit the skin, and I extracted with Wc3 Viewer, I converted to tga with Yobgul's Wc3 Converter and then converted the .tga back to a .blp with Wc3 Viewer because Yobgul's couldn't find it. When I wrap the model with the skin in Wc3 Viewer it shows up perfectly fine, but when I view it in-game, as you said, only the shoulderpads and team color show up ![]() EDIT: Hey guys, went in and fixed it, read a thread about someone with the same problem and as I was guessing, the .tga format messed up the alpha channel so i just redid the skin and saved it as a .bmp, now it works fine, below is a snapshot of the model with its skin in Wc3 Viewer I was going for simple because in the map the Mage is actually always engulfed in fire, so theres really no point in putting a lot of detail into his skin. But, another day another problem, where the heck do I go to extract icons? |
