Expansionism

Summary:
An uppity group of Empires battle for unification. As each Empire throws its military might against another and captures' thier rival's City Centers, they force the enemy into submission! However, rather than razing rival cities to the ground, each captured Empire is forcefully absorbed into the captor's empire, and they must work together to rule the rest.

Map History:
Expansionism was originally a fork of Empire, by TerrorAustralis. It brought a completely new terrain, new units, and many gameplay improvements. With this version (soon to be 1.4), the triggers have been completely rewritten in JASS.

Major Features & Gameplay:
  • Simple unit and tech system (no gold or wood - only build time and food) that forces players to make trade offs in what units they produce and what they research. (Also designed to allow the player to focus on beating the crap out of thier rivals)
  • Three tiers of (hopefully) well balanced and unique units... each having a specific purpose in your military. The tiers increase for everyone at a given time during the game (function of how many people are playing).
  • Expansive terrain that allows players to focus on whatever strategies they prefer - be it land combat, sea combat, turtling, or something else.
  • Unique (afaik) hero system, where basic units rank up by making XX kills - eventually ranking into heroes. (Ranks are implemented, heroes are still under development)
  • This is a game where one person wins, and no one really loses.

Testing Notes:
  • Currently the map is a little too large for smaller numbers of players. It is suggested you play with around 8-12 people. Once I get the code locked down, I'll be working on a much smaller, arena-type terrain.
  • The most confusing thing about this map for many people is that you do not lose when someone captures your base! It helps to reassure someone that they will, in fact, not lose - but rather will join the captor's team.
  • That blackened island in the middle is currently not triggered - it is fun to muck about on, but there is no benefit (yet) for doing so.

Known Bugs, Missing Features and Balancing Issues:
Hidden information:
  • Players can grief by relocating in the middle of the game and not placing their base.
  • The multiboard can get a little wonky, particularly when someone leaves.
  • The victory message sometimes shows at inappropriate times, and for the wrong victor.
  • You cannot destroy all selected buildings with one click on the ability.
  • City Centers do not show disabled upgrades with tooltips explaining tiers.
  • Rebellion and Relocation doesn't have a confirmation dialog.
  • The Evilsheep Isle is not triggered.
  • Heroes.
  • Observer mode.
  • The host cannot choose to have players vote on game config.

Note this is an optimized/protected copy of the map for size issues (and I don't want unprotected dev versions out in the wild) - if you want the unprotected copy, gimmie a hollar

yeah - for some reason the attachments popup doesn't load in firefox for me - had to switch over to IE to get it up. I guess I was too lazy to copy/paste what I had already typed into FF.
