Can someone please guide me in making a simple stand animation for any normal unit. You can even use one of the old war 3 models to make a tutorial or just as reference.

Thanks

Have you rigged your model yet? As in making a bone structure?

yes i just need help animating a stand animation. Its just a basic rig i connected the hand to the forearm to the upper arm to the bone that controls th top to the pelvis(main bone), same goes for the legs. I liked that general grevious animation in the other thread and maybe you could show me how to make an exaggeration like that without moving the foot like they did. They bent the leg but the foot didnt seem to move, do you know what they did?

Well I personally don't know how TDR chooses to animate, but what I would do is attempt to re-position the leg and foot so that the foot looks like it doesn't move. Sometimes this can take a while to make perfect, but I always work this way and my stand animations come out fine in my opinion.

so your saying just to reposition until it stops moving with the leg? Ill try it, in fact ive been trying it i just thought cant i just copy and paste the numbers in the boxes in max that determine the rotation position ect or should i just reposition it manually?

Thanks alot, also if you have anymore tips on anything to do with animation it would be appreciated.

Edit: I cant seem to get it..... If you can direct me to a video tutorial of making a simple animation that would be appreciated.

I just reposition it manually, it just takes some time and patience if everything is rigged correctly. Put a video of your animaiton on here and let me see whats wrong.

When I have the time, I'll try to make a basic animation video tutorial (accompanied by text, for I ain't going to speak). But first I have to finish Olof's grievous once and for all and I'll be busy as hell with this university stuff.

You need to move the whole model down a bit when the leg bends like that, otherwise he'd be floating in the air. It looks like you have the right idea, you just need to take more time and accuracy to perfect it.

thanks alot tdr i am just as long as the tutorial teaches me the basics, from there ill probably catch on. I am not used to animating with a non biped object. Sorry if this causes you trouble of any kind. Take your time cause your university is more important than making a video tutorial. I wish i could go to university for this kind of stuff, but im too young...............maybe in 3 years

Thanks alot i didnt mean to screw up your schedule

Edit: This is my troll animation a little modified. I am still having problems making my feet stop moving but here it is:

also i was just wondering when you might be done the tutorial or starting it.

It looks better, the problem is the thighs need to move down as well, because they are attached to the pelvis, so when it moves they move as well. You've got the right idea though.

just remember one thing: this is good as a wc3 animation, but for other game it would be awfull. You'll never see someone hopping that exagerated when standing. But just as I said, this is the wc3 style. I'm telling you this in case you'll be modding something else (Oblivion mabye??? hmm??)
