You are asking for something too vague. Be more specific.

Step One:

Select "Particle Systems" from the dropdown menu.

Step Two:

Click on the "BlizPart" button, this is the standard particle emitter you use for WC3 particles. I think it's the only one, but I'm not sure. Then start messing with the values in the bottom area. What all of them do is explained in the Art Tools Documentation so I won't explain them. Set all the values to what they are in my images to get a standard fire emitter.

Step Three:

Once all of the information is set correctly, then click and drag in the "Top" quarter of the main screen. Make sure the emitter is centered on all parts of the axis, this is important. Then you have to set the dope sheet correctly (I assume you know how to do that) And then give it the standard animations: Stand, Birth, Death.

Step Four:

Export the model, convert it to an .mdl, set the path correctly so it uses in game textures, convert it back to .mdx, and then import it into your map. This was my final product, I'll attach the .mdx so you can see how it came out.

I hope this was useful!

Note: I only gave it a stand animation, and this is a very basic particle, it was just to show you the basics of particle creation. Most effects are a mixture of particles and planes. I highly recommend reading the Art Tools Documentation.

Whatever texture you want to use for your particle, I used "Dust6ColordRed.tga", and then messed with the colors as shown above to make it look right.

If you want something for ice, then choose an ice texture from the Warcraft III MPQ.

This gave me an idea to start a new tutorial about particles... Hmm... I'll see what I can do about it. Stay tuned!

Using 3DsMax5?

Most of the explosions on wc3 are just particle emitters with high spaw rate and speed.

And large sized particles.
