I know that you are unable to export a .mdx file with Gmax, but is there any other way??? KMK if you could make your script work with exporting .mdx's with Gmax that'd be GREAT, please if you can (Or anybody else that can).

Here's the problem with gMax. Discreet disabled all file output functions. That means I cannot create a new file and I cannot write to a file, I can only read from an existing one. That is why I can import models but not export them. For the moment your going to have to export as a 3ds and use DaishiOfDeath's program. There is the possibility of a proper import/export plugin, but I don't know much about the 3ds max sdk or whether it'll work for gmax, plus I have to finish my script first.

Ok, thanks KMK for reading and replying. SO basically Blizzard will have to realease a Warcraft III game pack for Gmax that has the .mdx editing functions?

I can't even export as .3ds from gmax! How can I do this? Is there a game pack that allows it?

using the Quake game pak which is free, but it has problems I think like the normals are not right and it doesn't allow for the animation, going to try and test it out tonight using milkshade to convert from md3 to mdl.

http://www.worldzone.net/games/azrae...ZERO/GMAX.html oops the link at this site doesn't work but this one does http://www.gmaxsupport.com/html/download.asp

Yeah, that's probably it... export an MD3 from GMAX, import it into Milkshape, export as 3ds or obj, then convert using DaishiofDeath's converter (warning, this program doesn't yet properly handle texture coordinates)

I dont know about anyother time but anyway I did use Max.
My mistake. Dont know where I got the Idea from.
I've been doing stuff in Milkshape,3dsm and gmax. I must have been confused at the time.

Do you need Quake to run the aformentioned game pak?

But I'm having a heck of a time of getting it from md3 to anything else that will import it into mdl or mdx :(.... everything looks good in the MD3 in Milkshade but haven't found anything to convert the obj, 3ds or other formats correctly.

Milkshape can export an obj file (Alias Wavefront Object) just fine.

Try it.

Um, just warning you. Dashi's converter can sometimes get a bit messy to deal with. It once converted my arthas edited model i made into a giant tower... i wouldnt bug with it, since it tends to be more of a problem than any real help.
